The "Golden Dome for America" initiative is a transformative program designed to enhance missile defense capabilities for North America. With its layered approach to intercepting and tracking threats-ranging from traditional ballistic missiles to advanced hypersonic weapons-the program is poised to address the increasingly sophisticated missile arsenals of China, Russia, North Korea, and potentially Iran in the coming decades. Its implementation marks a significant shift toward resilient, distributed, and proliferated space-based architectures as critical components of an integrated deterrence strategy.
The Fire Control Optimization (AI) Engineer Senior will lead efforts to design, develop, and implement advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms to optimize fire control solutions for space systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) missions. This individual will leverage their expertise in AI/ML, fire control systems, and real-time decision optimization to enhance mission capabilities in complex and contested environments.
The role requires in-depth technical knowledge of fire control systems, AI/ML methodologies, and space systems, with a focus on delivering innovative solutions to improve targeting accuracy, operational responsiveness, and situational awareness. The Fire Control Optimization (AI) Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, systems engineers, and Warfighter operators, to ensure the successful integration of optimized fire control solutions into mission architectures.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement AI/ML algorithms to optimize fire control solutions for advanced space systems and targeting operations.
- Perform modeling and simulation of fire control scenarios to validate the accuracy, responsiveness, and adaptability of AI-based solutions.
- Develop predictive analytics tools to enhance targeting, tracking, and mission planning for Warfighter operations.
- Integrate AI/ML methodologies into fire control systems to improve sensor-to-shooter timelines in complex mission environments.
- Collaborate with software and systems engineering teams to implement real-time AI-driven decision-making capabilities.
- Support algorithm testing, verification, and validation, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and government regulations.
- Analyze operational data to refine algorithms, enhance performance, and develop strategies for system resilience against adversarial threats.
- Explore and implement emergent AI/ML technologies into fire control and targeting systems to maintain cutting-edge mission capabilities.
- Provide technical expertise to government customers and stakeholders during design reviews, performance evaluations, and demonstrations.
- Document technical results, develop reports, and present findings to leadership, end users, and program management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other relevant technical disciplines (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience developing, implementing, and optimizing AI/ML algorithms for complex systems, preferably in fire control or defense applications.
- Proven track record of supporting space systems or targeting solutions within the Department of Defense (DoD) or the Intelligence Community (IC).
- Experience working with real-time systems integration and decision-making frameworks in dynamic operational environments.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning frameworks, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent.
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C++, Java) with a focus on algorithm development and optimization.
- Knowledge of fire control systems, targeting solutions, sensor integration, and mission optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, STK).
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Certifications in AI/ML or data science (e.g., AWS Machine Learning Specialty, Google AI Engineer certification).
- Experience with advanced optimization techniques, reinforcement learning, or neural network architectures in mission-critical applications.
- Familiarity with space domain awareness, orbital mechanics, or satellite mission planning tools.
- Knowledge of adversarial AI and strategies for mitigating disruption to optimization algorithms.
Clearance:
- Active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
