Duke University's Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) is seeking a skilled Maintenance Specialist to support the operation and upkeep of essential equipment. Be You. In this role, you will perform maintenance, repairs, and oversight of specialized systems including water purification and distribution, environmental monitoring, biological safety cabinets, animal transfer stations, animal cage racks, and other critical equipment. Work Arrangement - On-site Anticipated Pay Range - Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $23.58 to USD $38.97. Experience with autoclave/automatic washers is desired. Experience with PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is a plus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education - Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education with course work in skilled crafts. State of NC contractor's license in a specific trade may be preferred. Experience - Minimum of four (4) years maintenance and repair experience related to the specific equipment or four (4) years of trades experience with at least one-year related experience. Valid N.C. Driver's license is required. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. Be Bold. Hazard Exposure The animal facility has a variety of environmental conditions. Specifically, employees may be exposed to potentially hazardous noise, dust, chemicals, extreme heat, and animal waste products. The duration of exposure of any of the above is dependent on assigned duties. Some aspects of this position may expose the incumbent to potentially zoonotic and other biohazardous agents. Appropriate protective clothing and equipment may be required and will be provided when required, accompanied by appropriate training. Work Performed
