As an IT Server & Cloud Computing Engineer at Smithfield Foods, you will design, build, and maintain innovative server and cloud solutions that drive business value. This role manages company-wide deployments of cloud and server technologies, ensuring consistent standards, orchestration of processes, and effective monitoring and administration. Collaboration is key-you'll work closely with IT teams and vendors to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient infrastructure services. By aligning technical solutions with Smithfield's infrastructure strategy, governance, and operational needs, you'll play a vital role in shaping a modern IT environment that supports growth, transformation, and innovation. Implementation & Deployment: Provide technical expertise and participate on project teams deploying new systems and operational processes aligned with business initiatives. Planning & Contingency: Assist in developing detailed implementation and contingency plans to support system rollouts and ensure business continuity. Performance & Troubleshooting: Continuously improve system performance through tuning, monitoring, and resolving technical issues as they arise. Server & Cloud Administration: Deliver technical expertise and support daily operations for both on-premise and cloud-based systems. Analysis & Evaluation: Analyze and evaluate existing and proposed systems, solutions, and infrastructure to recommend improvements. Vendor & Partner Collaboration: Build and leverage relationships with external service providers to drive operational excellence and ensure service quality. Technology Research & Innovation: Participate in researching and evaluating new enterprise technologies, platform upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements. Strategy & Governance: Contribute to infrastructure strategy, management, and governance, supporting business processes and operations. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain detailed documentation of compute service designs and specifications to support engineering standards and team training.
WHAT WE'RE SEEKING: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Server Administration: Established technical knowledge and 4+ years of hands-on experience in Windows or Linux Server administration (both a plus; Red Hat Linux preferred). Infrastructure Expertise: Technical understanding of hyperconverged solutions and hands-on experience with Active Directory, ADFS, SCCM, VMware, Cisco UCS, Veeam, and Red Hat Satellite Server. Cloud Knowledge: Experience working with multi-cloud enterprise environments, with an understanding of capabilities and cost structures of major providers (Azure and AWS a plus). Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify root causes, implement efficient solutions, anticipate risks, and adapt quickly to challenges. Business & Technical Translation: Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. Automation & Orchestration: Knowledge of orchestration tools and automation practices to streamline processes and services. Systems Knowledge: Understanding of infrastructure services, system dependencies, and the operational characteristics of hardware and software. Adaptability & Learning: Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, equipment, and systems. Independence & Initiative: Capable of working independently, demonstrating self-motivation, accountability, and follow-through. Communication & Collaboration: Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
