The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research, and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical, surgical, oncology, and pediatric patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 70 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 32 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

Reports to the Operations Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Services for the Adult Medicine, Emergency, and Surgery Pharmacy. Responsible for working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health care team to promote wellness, maintain current health, and/or intervene in acute or chronic illness. Promotes the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning problems and instructs patients and families on their medications. Provides education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners. This position will have a primary clinical area of focus in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The MICU is a 24-bed unit with 2 teaching, rounding teams. This role will actively participate in rounds on 1 of those teams. They will also provide medication order review and verification for about 5 hours each day for the MICU. In addition, they will also provide cross-coverage with other clinical pharmacists (with a focus on ICUs) and will respond as part of the emergency code response team. They will also have opportunities to participate and lead in precepting learners, performing research, and committee membership.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm. D. or BS degree. Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program or equivalent experience is desired.
  • 3 years of related experience required. 1 year of residency experience preferred.
  • Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland is required. Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner's practice setting by the Division Director is required within 2 years of the start date.
  • Hospital and departmental education requirements completed within 90 days of hire. ACLS and/or PALS certification is desired.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, drug information, and the medication use system. Familiarity with medication safety concepts and process improvement methodologies is desired.
  • Demonstrates a high level of skills related to teamwork, organization, and prioritization of workflow. Displays customer service and interpersonal communication skills required for effective communication with patients and other health care providers. Exhibits emotional maturity with regard to teamwork, self-awareness, and empathy. A high level of analytical ability is required to research and evaluate drug information, interpret patient-specific data, and resolve problems regarding medication use. Committed to precepting, teaching, mentoring, and coaching pharmacy technicians, students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners.


Shift:

Full Time (40 hours)

Rotating Shift 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Weekend work required (every 3rd weekend)

Exempt

Salary Range: Minimum 54.59/hour - Maximum 90.15/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
