The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of multi-state payroll for the entire organization. Payroll specialists process on-site payroll from start to finish. This includes maintaining related records, filing tax returns, voluntary deduction reports, and involuntary deductions such as levies, garnishments, and child support payments. This position involves access to confidential information and requires discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines on a consistent basis. Responsibilities of Position:  
  
 Process and guarantee weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes to employees consistent with federal and state wage and hour lawsAccurately maintain payroll information in a computerized payroll systemProcess legal-related payroll documents and ensure compliance with garnishments, levies, support orders, and federal, state, and local payroll tax withholding/reportingReview, calculate, update, and maintain employee-related information such as pay changes, retroactive adjustments, tax withholding, corrections to pay, garnishments, levies, reimbursements, fringe benefits, voluntary deductions, and other related pay itemsMaintain Time and Attendance system, including set-up of employees, various schedules, holidays, etcEnsure document retention for payroll and time meet legal requirementsEnsure all employees' hours are submitted/approved and uploaded into the payroll systemAccurately and timely prepare and file federal, state, and local payroll-related taxes and corresponding paymentsProcess and distribute W-2s and complete and file year-end returns and reportsAccurately reconcile accounts/accruals to the general ledgerProvide support to management and employees with a variety of payroll and time management questions/situations. Research, resolve, and respond promptly and courteously to all payroll inquiries/concerns from management and employeesUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizationsPrepare and distribute statistical and financial payroll reports as neededPerform audits of employee information within the system to ensure the accuracy of records and maintain data integrityDevelop an in-depth understanding of the Payroll Database to be able to create reports on demandPerform job duties in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policiesOther duties as assigned

 Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position: 
  
 Experience in payroll processing and taxes in a high volume, fast-paced multi-state environmentMinimum three (3) years experience in processing payroll internallyPrevious employee relations experience a plusSubstantial knowledge of all aspects of payroll taxes and federal and state wage/labor lawsPossess and maintain current knowledge of laws relating to wages and hoursBachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience requiredCPP, Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred but not required
