The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is seeking a vice chair of research in the Department of Orthopaedics. This is an opportunity for an outstanding leader with a national/international reputation as a respected and accomplished academician, clinician, educator and collaborator with a proven track record in innovating research. A qualified individual will also serve as the director of Basic and Translational Science Research for the department. The vice chair will work in strategic consultation with the department chair and the College's Translational Research Office (TReO). The vice chair will work alongside the chair and focus their efforts on the development of a multidisciplinary program for basic science research and translational clinical studies. As vice chair, this individual will be a nurturing mentor to faculty and trainees, providing ongoing guidance and support of their professional development. They must be a respected leader who is clinically active and has an established record of building a basic science research program. The candidate must be viewed by stakeholders as an effective leader who will help guide the multi-disciplinary program and hospital system. The vice chair will assist the department in developing a research vision and infrastructure, seeking grant and other funding opportunities, serving as a principal investigator, developing research plans and methods, implanting and managing research studies and disseminating research findings. In addition, this individual will be expected to develop collaborative relationships with other university, clinical and community partners fostering a cutting-edge translational science program. The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of full professor. The successful candidate will meet the requirements of a career track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.
