Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant Certified (CMA) provides superior patient care and performs both clinical and administrative tasks that support patients in a clinic-based environment as part of a care team led by the physician and/or advanced practice provider.
- Enters, maintains, and reports all medical history, medical coding, and files claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Support patient visits by performing chart prep and scrub, greeting patients, escorting patients to exam room to take vital signs, and relaying other applicable medical information to effectively support the reason for the visit and treatment.
- Perform medical tests and/or procedures that fit within the medical assistant scope of practice and have received documented satisfactory training by a provider to complete.
- Collecting, preserving, and properly labeling laboratory specimens, bodily fluid, and blood samples.
- Explains medical procedures to patients and provides instructions to patients about medication and special diets under the direction of the provider.
- Sterilizes and prepares medical instruments. Ensures patient exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and ready for incoming patients. Provides patients with privacy, comfort, safety and hygiene.
- Assists in maintaining inventory and stocking supplies, instruments and equipment for all exam rooms.
- Maintains appropriate paperwork for inventory control and reviews orders received for completeness.
- Addresses and requests referrals and other insurance authorizations in addition to passing along patient information for prescription, x-ray or lab requisitions to necessary parties. This includes calls to pharmacies, hospitals, and labs.
- Draws and conducts injection of vaccines, medications, intradermal injections, and other function associated with injection/vaccine administration.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program.
- Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Prior experience in a clinic or hospital setting supporting patient care.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
