Job Summary


This limited appointment position will end 6 months from the start date.

The NP role involves comprehensive research, clinical projects, and pediatric diabetes care for children with all types of diabetes, including support for global health initiatives. Responsibilities include conducting regular clinic visits, performing physical exams, reviewing diabetes data, and adjusting insulin regimens and medications as needed. Clinical management also encompasses diabetes education, case management, and training patients on diabetes devices, including investigational technologies. The NP will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care, respond to inquiries, review data, and adjust treatments to improve metabolic control. Additionally, the NP will lead group sessions to educate patients and families on diabetes devices and treatments, while sharing responsibilities within the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) pool.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program is a robust interdisciplinary research and clinical practice. Our practice is a multi-disciplinary integrated clinic that serves a broad range of patients of diverse backgrounds.

Required Qualifications


  • Five (5) years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Pediatric Diabetes, with additional expertise in general endocrinology
  • One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner managing pediatric patients using fully automated insulin delivery systems
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or be willing to obtain Certification within 6 months of employment
  • Experience with Spanish-language group sessions for pump settings
  • Experience with early adoption of pump therapy management and education of pediatric patients
  • Critical analysis, problem-solving skills and collaboration with multi-disciplinary team
  • Advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills for patients and families across all developmental levels

Preferred Qualifications


  • Flexibility to orient and work at outreach locations
  • Knowledge of insulin pump downloads, Continuous Glucose Monitor (GCM), automated insulin delivery systems (AID)
  • Ability to document in real-time within EMR
  • Proficient in using diabetes technology devices and keeping up with the new diabetes technology device use and training including research devices

License/Certification


  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner (NP) License without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number
  • NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role
  • Pediatric Outpatient (CPNP-PC, PPCNP-BC, CPNP-AC, FNP-C, FNP-BC).
  • California Driver License (if required for position)
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
