Information Technology Services Job Description

Job Summary

Provide support for class and event related AV and computer needs as part of the Classroom and Events Support team. Check that the technology and technical support needed for classes and events is available and present based on requests. Assist end-users with the use of technology for their events, including providing guidance on best practices and instruction on the use of event and classroom technology, as needed. Provide setup and support of audio systems for classes and events. Assist with the maintenance of AV equipment and computers in classrooms and event spaces and provide direct technology support to campus events. Work performed may be individual or collaborative with other ITS colleagues depending on context.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Class & Event Support (45%):

  • Provide direct support of AV and computer needs for Smith classes, meetings and standard as well as high-profile events. This may at times include evening and weekend work.
  • Evaluate and respond to incoming request for AV or computer support in class, meeting and event spaces, based on CEMS standard practices. Refer requests to Event Support Coordinator as needed.
  • Provide level two support for student consultants and users in classrooms and event spaces.
  • Instruct faculty, students, staff, and visitors on how to use classroom equipment and campus network.
  • Provide backup support for Class and Event Support Specialist - Video.

Lead for Audio System Support (40%):

  • Manage audio technologies on campus within defined service levels including interfacing microphone and sound output systems with classroom control system and managing audio leveling for both analog and digital audio systems.
  • Provide direct support for classes, meetings and Smith sponsored standard and high-profile events
  • Oversee the work of outside vendors providing audio services on campus.
  • Provide setup and audio mixing support for large and specialized event venues.

Hardware Support and Maintenance (10%):

  • Assists with the testing and maintenance of event space and classroom A/V and computer equipment. Consult on audio technology in learning and event spaces.

Other Responsibilities (5%):

  • Participates in cross-team projects, attends team meetings.
  • Maintains professional skills, remaining current with leading practices in the industry and within Higher Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM REQUIRED Qualifications (education, experience, certifications, licenses, knowledge, skills):

  • Associate's Degree
  • 1 to 5 years experience Area: Technology Support

Knowledge of:

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with Windows and Mac Operating Systems; Microsoft Office and Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  • Knowledge of AV Systems including projectors, sound systems and AV control systems

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and independent judgement.
  • Ability to troubleshoot AV and computer systems used in classroom and event spaces during active sessions, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 to 5 years experience Area: Direct support of AV Systems

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of analog and digital audio systems and sound technologies. Familiarity with DSP programming and Extron control systems.
  • Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
