The UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its 250+ faculty and clinician members and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients.
Your Role on the Team
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced digital communications professional to produce design and layout for a variety of non-routine and moderately complex web site applications; ensure search engine optimization; and develop social media platforms. Demonstrates a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
This role requires a dynamic and innovative individual with a passion for storytelling, relationship building, and leveraging diverse digital communication channels to inspire action and provide support.
The Digital Communications Coordinator reports to the Manager for Communications & Branded Content and supports a portfolio of communications activities at the UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) that advances CFCCC's strategies and brand identity. This includes:
Website Content Support * Manage updates to the CFCCC website, including news, events, and general content. * Ensure information is accurate, timely, and aligned with approved templates and brand guidelines. * Liaise with internal teams to gather content and route updates for review and approval.
Email & Member Communications * Prepare and distribute CFCCC email bulletins, ZotMails, and all member announcements. * Coordinate schedules, compile content, and format messages for accuracy and clarity. * Track distribution lists and ensure communications reach intended audiences.
Social Media Support * Assist with developing, scheduling, and posting social media content across CFCCC platforms. * Monitor engagement metrics and prepare reports to inform future content planning. * Coordinate with staff across CFCCC to gather stories, images, and updates suitable for social channels.
Design & Writing Requests * Receive, track, and route design and writing requests to the appropriate staff member or vendor. * Monitor progress and follow up to ensure deliverables are completed on time. * Maintain organized records of requests, timelines, and approvals.
Digital Content Development & Editing * Draft, proofread, and edit digital content for accuracy, clarity, and brand compliance. * Ensure all communications reflect CFCCC's identity and adhere to UCI/UCI Health standards. * Support preparation of digital assets such as graphics, newsletters, and online announcements.
The Digital Communications Coordinator ensures timely execution of communications activities and serves as the key coordinating liaison for Communications efforts across the CFCCC Clinical Trials Office, the three Research Programs (250+ faculty and clinician members), the eight Shared Resources, and Cross-cutting Initiatives - Community Outreach and Engagement, and Cancer Research Training and Education. These are mandatory components of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and are vital to NCI's continued designation to the CFCCC. The NCI designation has a vital reputational and financial impact for CFCCC, UCI and UCI Health. Adherence to the guidelines of the CCSG is mandatory and involves ongoing monitoring of the organization for structure, direction, and fiscal management. All decisions at the CFCCC are taken within the context of the CCSG requirements. On-site presence is required; however, hybrid flexibility may be offered upon review and approval. What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- A minimum of 1-3 years of progressively responsible marketing, communications or related experience in an academic research environment, medical center, community non-profit setting, or other large matrix organization.
- Coordinating writing and editing of health- and science-related publications, stories, including scientific content for digital formats
- Experience with large, multidisciplinary, multi-component research grants (e.g., Cancer Center Support Grant) highly preferred.
- On-site presence is required; however, hybrid flexibility may be offered upon review and approval. Please note that this is not guaranteed
Education
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Special Conditions:
- Requires travel to the Orange campus, Irvine campus, and off-site locations for meetings/events.
- Requires regional travel within California multiple times per year.
- Requires annual attendance at national meetings held in different U.S. locations.
- Requires evening and/or weekend work as needed for events and/or completion and submission of annual reports to key stakeholders (e.g., National Cancer Institute).
