Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Coordinator of Building Services (Security and Visitor Services Specialist) for J voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum. Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the primary responsibilities of this position are the safety and security of the facility, staff, visitors and collections, and overseeing visitor services.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Supports the museum by developing various policies and protocols for reception desk and gallery attendants, covering operating hours, galleries, tours, special events and collaborates with staff across the museum to develop and implement new strategies for visitor engagement.
  • Handles reception and gallery attendants are the first point of contact for visitors and provides information about the museum, the exhibitions, education, and assistance to guests throughout their visit.
  • Works Tuesday through Saturday and is responsible for the opening and closing of the museum during regular hours, including weekends and after- hours for special events and programs.
  • Handles the successful daily operations of the museum experience, including interaction with the campus community and general public.
  • Supervises museum security.
  • Hires, trains, and schedules student gallery attendants (includes reception desk personnel).
  • Acts as liaison to Campus Security.
  • Develops and implements student gallery attendant training programs and security policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have or be willing to obtain within six months of employment a valid CPR certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have or be willing to obtain within six months of employment a valid CPR certification.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One 1-year museum security experience, two (2)-years customer service experience and 1-year supervisory experience.
  • First Aid certifications.
  • Demonstrated social and cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion.
  • High-performing and motivated leadership.
  • Good management skills.
  • Experience building and managing a team in a customer-service environment.
  • Knowledge of museum security protocols.

Equipment Utilized
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and database applications.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 30-50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Special Conditions

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
  • Mandatory overtime as needed.
