The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are seeking a manufacturing Production Planner in our Spokane or Seattle, WA location, with Spokane preferred. The Production Planner ensures manufacturing processes run efficiently by developing and implementing production schedules. As a Production Planner, you will work alongside operations, purchasing, and other departments to ensure that goods are produced according to customer demand and delivery requirements. Your day-to-day tasks will include analyzing production data, identifying bottlenecks, coordinating with other teams to eliminate production constraints, and adjusting production schedules to maximize output while managing resources effectively. You will also track inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials.

The ideal Production Planner candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks and look ahead to plan and prepare effectively for any known shortages. Ability to lead weekly meetings and discuss updates, and communicate risks that are known from the results of analyzing the schedule. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Create production schedules based on customer orders and production capacity.

  • Ability to collaborate with the team to create a visual management system for production schedules at the shop level for multiple value streams.

  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure materials and resources are available for each job.

  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to meet deadlines.

  • Maintain accurate records of production data and communicate updates to management.

  • Identify potential production delays or issues and develop contingency plans.

  • Evaluate production processes for efficiency and recommend improvements.

  • Coordinate with purchasing and logistics departments to ensure timely delivery of materials.

  • Assist in inventory management by tracking material usage and forecasting future needs.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the production process.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Education

  • High School diploma plus 4-6 experience in a similar role.

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 2-4 years experience in a similar role.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to lead weekly meetings, discuss updates, and communicate risks that are known from the results of analyzing the schedule.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

  • Detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks and look ahead to plan and prepare effectively for any known shortages.

  • Experience working with computer software related to scheduling, inventory management, and production planning.

  • Additional certification or training in supply chain management, Quality Management Systems or Lean Principles preferred.

  • Experience with construction and prior experience with production planning or scheduling multiple aspects of a project preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel.

  • Physical ability to navigate production facilities, or jobsites in uneven terrain.

The pay range for this position is $26.83 - $39.46 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
