Department Summary:
The Professional Development Practitioner - RN is a registered nurse with nursing professional development practice judgment who influences role competence and growth in the nursing practice environment by functioning in the roles of learning facilitator, mentor, leader, change agent, project manager, champion for inquiry, partner for practice transitions, and advocate for the specialty. This individual works collaboratively to support learners across the enterprise to facilitate continuous development via education, orientation/onboarding, competency, and role transition activities. Work activities are aligned with, and responsive to, the goals of the enterprise and the Nursing Patient Care Operations department.

The Professional Development Practitioner - RN works autonomously, and is innovative, forward thinking, customer focused, and self-directed, managing multiple projects and programs simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating an ongoing program of clinical orientation for assigned staff consistent with the goals of Nursing Patient Care Operations, CEIPQ, and Professional Development Council.
  • Maintaining and enhancing clinical competence of assigned staff. Working in collaboration with leadership, local level committees and other clinical staff to set clear expectations of staff related to educational activities and maintenance of competencies.
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, and career development services to assigned staff.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating an ongoing program of professional development in collaboration with professional development specialists, leadership and/or other clinical staff which includes in-service, mandatory, and continuing education which is congruent with the goals of Professional Development Council, the practice setting and the department of Nursing Patient Care Operations.
  • Developing and participating in mutually beneficial intra- and inter-professional collaborative partnerships to work jointly on common goals that are consistent with the needs of Nursing Patient Care Operations.
  • Assisting with and participating in the development of evidence-based practice and dissemination of results of clinical inquiry activities in alignment with Nursing Patient Care Operations' strategic goals, mission and vision.
  • Utilizing a variety of business and learning technologies to support and advance nursing professional development practice and enhance the customer experience.
  • 40 hours

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • A BSN required a Master's degree in Nursing Education is preferred.

Experience:
  • 3 years of clinical experience required. One year of experience in nursing professional development activities preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prefer candidates that are involved in councils, committees and are engaged in professional development for themselves or for others.
  • Experience creating, implementing and debriefing Simulation activities preferred.
  • Program or project management skills, including implementation of change initiatives, is preferred.
  • Entry level instructional design and presentation skills.

Licensure/ Certifications:
  • Current Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Certification in clinical practice/specialty. Certification in Nursing Professional Development is preferred and expected once eligibility criteria have been met.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
