Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $103510 - $137121.6. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Value Stream Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team. As an Assistant Manager - Value Stream Engineering, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Assistant Manager of Value Stream Engineering supports the Value Stream Engineering Manager in leading process improvement, equipment optimization, and production support activities. This role will assist in managing day-to-day engineering operations, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing. This position is for a self-motivated, goal driven, manager who is an effective leader, displays and aptitude in Value Stream Mapping and process design, can communicate effectively, and can successfully drive projects to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in planning, directing, and coordinating engineering activities within the Switchgear value stream.

  • Supervise and guide a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians in daily tasks and project execution.

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to address issues related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

  • Support equipment installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance coordination to minimize downtime.

  • Lead or assist in Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma, and Kaizen projects focused on operational efficiency and cost reduction.

  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturability of products.

  • Partner with design engineering in the development of new or improved product offerings focusing on process development and design for manufacturability.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend corrective actions where necessary.

  • Assist in budget planning and cost control related to capital expenditures for manufacturing equipment, tooling, and process improvements.

  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

Education:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership, supervisory, or project lead role.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering.

Certifications and Licenses:

Preferred

  • Manufacturing Systems Design and Analysis
  • Lean Six Sigma (LSS)
  • Design for Six SIgma (DFSS)
  • Design for Manufacture, Assembly and Automation (DFMA)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • CAD Proficiency and manufacturing process simulation tools

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Required:

  • Excellent organization and communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation); able to interface with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, from senior executives to support staff, and present compellingly to achieve buy-in from executives, managers and team members.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and industrial automation.
  • Expertise in manufacturing engineering strategies and tools with extensive knowledge in value stream mapping, lean six sigma, DFMA, and manufacturing systems design.
  • Capable of embracing diversity and equity to ensure they contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting - Continuously required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks.
  • Walking - Frequently required to walk moderate distances.
  • Manual Dexterity - Occasionally required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment.
  • Observation / Eyesight - Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors.
  • Ascending / Descending - Occasionally ascending or descending ladders/stairs/scaffolding/ramps/poles.
  • Communication - Frequently required to talk and hear, or otherwise, in person and by phone/conference calls.
  • Travel - Infrequently required to travel (up to 5%) and work extended hours when necessary. Potential to travel overnight.

Environmental and Hazardous Conditions

  • Frequently working on the shop floor and office-based environment.
  • Occasionally exposure to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.

  • Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.

  • Infrequently working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.

  • Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.

  • Occasionally working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
