We are seeking a Cybersecurity Consultant to serve as a high-level advisor, enabling the company to expand its in-house cybersecurity subject matter expertise and strengthen competitiveness in government contracting. This role will operate on an as-needed (on-call) basis to support active programs, proposal pursuits, and strategic initiatives requiring deep cybersecurity insight. The consultant will provide expert guidance in cybersecurity architecture, compliance, and risk management, ensuring alignment with Department of Defense (DoD) and federal cybersecurity requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior cybersecurity advisor to executive leadership, Program Managers, and technical teams.
  • Provide strategic input to the Business Development (BD) function on capture and proposal efforts, ensuring cybersecurity compliance and technical competitiveness.
  • Guide integration of cybersecurity requirements across all system phases-design, development, testing, and deployment-in accordance with RMF, NIST, CNSS, and DoD 8500-series policies.
  • Lead or advise on RMF documentation development (SSP, SAR, POA&M) and ATO readiness.
  • Review and validate secure configurations, encryption standards, and identity management mechanisms.
  • Support implementation of DISA STIGs, Cloud One, and other DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Evaluate vulnerabilities and guide secure coding practices using OWASP, CERT, and SAST methodologies.
  • Mentor internal staff to mature organizational cybersecurity expertise and readiness.
  • Provide senior-level consulting on emerging technologies, zero-trust architecture, and continuous monitoring frameworks.
  • Perform additional cybersecurity advisory functions as directed in support of strategic growth and compliance objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in cybersecurity architecture, RMF implementation, and federal or DoD compliance frameworks. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required experience.
  • A minimum of DoD Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II Certification or eligibility is required for this position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, or Mathematics with a concentration in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience leading or assessing complex system security architectures and risk management processes.
