Position Overview

The Aviation Flight Deck & Avionics Policy Engineer focuses on advancing flight deck technologies, avionics systems, and operational standards through policy and regulatory engagement. This role emphasizes collaboration, analysis, and communication-not hands-on design. You'll help define how next-generation flight decks operate safely and efficiently across the global airspace system.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze flight deck and avionics systems, regulatory proposals, and certification standards
  • Coordinate with the FAA, Transport Canada, TSA, NAV CANADA, and international aviation authorities
  • Support pilot committees and safety teams on flight deck design, operations, and security
  • Participate in standards development organizations (RTCA, ASTM, SAE) shaping next-generation avionics integration
  • Prepare technical reports, policy guidance, and recommendations for leadership and stakeholders
  • Provide pilot and accident response support on a rotational basis

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in avionics, flight deck architecture, or a related engineering field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with transport-category aircraft avionics and flight deck systems
  • Solid understanding of FAA and Transport Canada certification and regulatory processes
  • Familiarity with industry standards groups such as RTCA, ASTM, and SAE preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • Travel locally, nationally, and internationally up to 20%
