The Patient Service Coordinator will handle all administrative (non-clinical) aspects of the patient encounter, assisting each and every patient to achieve the Ideal Patient Encounter, and maintaining accurate information on each patient to facilitate the encounter. Offers friendly, courteous assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive, professional experience while at Johns Hopkins. Since most administrative tasks will be expedited with the use of automated scheduling, registration and billing systems, the patient coordinator will need to be proficient on the appropriate computer systems.

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**- Provide friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to patients and their family members or representatives.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Use the EPIC system for patient registration, scheduling, check-in, check-out, processing referrals, and communicating patient messages to providers. Ensure insurance information is input accurately.
- Handle in-basket and secure chat messages sent to the Front Desk Pool in a timely manner.
- Schedule appointments and ensure that the orders from referring providers have been received.
- Fill vacant appointment slots due to cancellations.
- Verify Medical Assistance eligibility via the Electronic Verification System (EVS).
- Confirm all other insurance information using RTE in EPIC and Availity.
- Check eligibility for grant patients prior to their arrival for a visit.
- Verify demographic information (address and phone number) and insurance information at each visit, making necessary corrections.
- Scan a picture ID and insurance card into EPIC during the first visit and verify at all subsequent visits.
- Contact the insurance company if the information on the insurance card is incorrect.
- Use the bump list to call patients who need to be rescheduled.
- Utilize the AWARE Report to improve bypassed warnings.
- Prepare and mail missed appointment letters (at the provider's request) and appointment cancellation letters when unable to inform patients via phone.
- Answer phones and provide appropriate information to callers. Take messages for providers and forward them via EPIC.
- Call transportation services for patients as needed.
- Process forms from outside agencies completed by providers.
- At the end of the day, ensure that all patients who did not present for a scheduled visit are either marked as canceled or no-showed.
- Scan paperwork into EPIC daily and save it in the appropriate area.
- Ensure that windows and cabinets are locked at the end of the shift.**Essential Job Functions**- The Patient Service Coordinator (PSC) must be able to multitask while providing customer service to patients and others, assisting providers, and entering information into the scheduling system.
- The PSC will be required to assist with answering phones.
- The PSC should be proficient in using a computer, copy machine, and prioritizing duties effectively.**Minimum Qualifications**- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of work experience in customer service.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.**Preferred Qualifications**- Customer service experience in a medical setting using Epic EMR.

Salary Range: Minimum 17.11/hour - Maximum 28.26/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
