Position Description
-
Provide support for the computer aided design (CAD) software and spatial database support for GIS related data, and provide assistance with graphic and engineering related work utilizing supported systems.
Salary:
The anticipated starting salary for this position is:
$33.86 - 46.61 / hour, depending on qualifications.
Work Location:
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

*Provide support for the City's engineering database and computer aided design (CAD) systems.
*Develop, install, configure, support, and optimize CAD installation across the enterprise. Administer the Capital Improvement Projects Database to provide document management and facilitate engineering work.
*Coordinate support, maintain and update Capital Improvement Projects on the City's web site along with updating of all of the content to keep the public and Council Members informed of current project status.
*Provide CAD user training on proper procedures and system capabilities and assist in the development and coordination of user training plans.
*Develop and maintain documentation on design processes and CAD standards to improve the delivery of Capital Projects.
*Automate design processes to perform CAD tasks more efficiently.
*Test and configure engineering software prior to upgrade and installation, to ensure that software performs as expected.
*Facilitate the design team lead meetings to provide a forum for enterprise engineering users to discuss design issues and standards.
*Support the City's Enterprise Spatial Database including the maintenance, update, and distribution of planimetric, public utility, roadway centerline, LiDAR, and digital ortophoto map data layers.
*Create computer generated project layouts, publications, visualizations, and GIS maps for Public Works Staff to use for presentations and analysis.
*Train, assign, and give work direction to Graphics Design and Engineering Technician staff.
*Departmental liaison point of contact between BIS/Unisys and the Property Services Unit.
*Develop applications that automate engineering business processes.
*Train users on proper procedures and system capabilities.
*Identify, analyze, and resolve computer hardware and software user issues and problems using troubleshooting skills, applying available database information and seeking solutions from vendors and other support.
*Assist in technology resource planning by developing specifications, evaluating proposals, and making recommendation regarding new hardware and software.
*Perform visual field checks of proposed projects using a digital camera to gather information needed to create layouts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or Surveying with considerable course work in computer programming or equivalent MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Three years of related experience LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: N/A.
Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

*Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office software packages including word, Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Visio, And VBA Programming tools.
*Strong knowledge of web authoring software including such software as Front Page, Netscape Composer, and Mepedit.
*Good knowledge of geographic information systems and cartography.
*Good knowledge of civil engineering technology and ability to use and administer various Engineering Design Software.
*Good knowledge of and the ability to use graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop Coral Draw.
*Knowledge of Oracle database software and the ability to use Access queries to manipulate information or an so that information and data can be lifted and transferred between programs.
*Strong communication skills and the ability to work with wide variety of individuals in completing its work.
*Good knowledge of the organization and policies and procedures in the Public Works Department in order to deal with variety of requests for assistance with systems and graphics.
*Ability to train, schedule, and manage the work of others in completing assignments.
*Good verbal and written communication skills.
