LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, WEST TENNESSEE STATE PENITENTIARY, LAUDERDALE COUNTY
A Motor Vehicle Records screening will be conducted prior to employment.
This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position. Qualifications Education and Experience: Experience equivalent to four years of increasingly responsible and skilled full-time mechanical labor and trades work including, at least, two years in the operation of high pressure boilers. Necessary Special Qualifications: An appropriate classed boiler operator's license may be required within a reasonable period after employment if local subdivisions demand same in the operation of boilers where so operated. A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required in some positions. Examination Method: Education and Experience, 100%, for Preferred Service positions. Overview Under general supervision, is responsible for semi-skilled and skilled boiler operation work of average difficulty which includes leading others in work; and performs related work as required. This is the lead level class in the operation of high and low pressure boilers. An employee in this class is the lead worker on an assigned shift. This class differs from that of Boiler Operator 1 in that an incumbent of the latter is not a lead worker. This class differs from that of the Boiler Operator Supervisor in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for boiler operators on all shifts at a facility. Responsibilities
- Evaluate the condition of the boilers, chillers, and generators to determine compliance with standards. Perform general and preventative maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Inspect the operations of the boilers, air compressions, chillers, and generators. Inspect the pressure and water levels/temperatures on boilers. Inspect water systems and associated piping. Inspect chemical feed rates to ensure compliance with recommendations from Chemical Representatives. Conduct chemical test to determine levels.
- Monitor the function of the boilers, air compressors, chillers, and generators. Monitor electrical systems, chemical feed rates, water systems, energy management systems, usage of fuel and water, and supplies to ensure compliance.
- Document pressure and water levels/temperatures on boilers, document chemical log, and the usage of fuel and water.
- Receives information from boilers control systems and various systems on the boilers to determine operations. Receives information from various sources concerning day to day activities for the facility.
- Walks through boiler rooms to record hourly readings and climbs ladders daily to learn how to set operations.
- Perform a wide variety of handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials using hands and arms as needed to complete daily tasks. Operates forklift to unload and place supplies needed for daily operation.
- Explain the daily operational procedures to less experienced staff based on departmental, state, and federal laws and guidelines. Monitors the performance and work standards of subordinates. Mentors less experienced co-workers in their work.
