Nuclear Engineering and Radiations Sciences Job Description
The Department of Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Science (NERS) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri is seeking outstanding applicants for an exciting opportunity to help lead and carry out multiple major initiatives in nuclear engineering. The position is at the associate/full professor level with tenure. The successful candidate will also be awarded a Kummer Impact Professorship, which is a five-year appointment with additional salary and discretionary funding. The NERS department houses the Missouri S&T Reactor (MSTR), a 200kW pool-type reactor that sees extensive use for both educational and research purposes. The department recently launched the Advanced Research Consortium (ARC) which is a industrial member group supporting research on advanced reactors and SMR development and deployment. There is also a strong interest in bringing a new advanced reactor to campus to as a core as part of an integrated energy systems initiative. The department is particularly proud of its connection to US national labs, nuclear power utilities, and various nuclear technology vendors. Missouri S&T recently signed a SUPER agreement Idaho National Laboratory. NERS has a proud history of positively impacting society through ground-breaking research and advancing the quality and breadth of its educational mission, granting an ABET-accredited BS, as well as MS and PhD degrees in nuclear engineering. The department is experiencing unprecedented growth in enrollment, research, and external support. The department currently has eight tenured or tenure-track professors and is a leader in undergraduate education in nuclear engineering. The department has consistently ranked among top five US institutions in the numbers of undergraduate degree awarded in nuclear engineering over the past four years. Currently there are just over 200 undergraduate and graduate students in NERS on campus. Qualifications
In addition to a strong track record of scholarly accomplishments, candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to (a) teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, (b) service in the applicant's professional community and our institution, and (c) the development of new initiatives of the NERS department. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or a closely related field. Eligibility for professional engineering registration is considered an asset.
