Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Data Analyst - Neurology Data Hub.
The Neurology Data Hub (NDH) at NYU Langone Health (NYULH) seeks a Data Science Analyst/Engineer to help transform how academic teams perform research in the field of neurology. The Neurology Data Hub aims to build innovative and centralized resources to improve access, efficiency, and support for research teams working with a wide range of data sources to study and address neurological health issues. Specifically, the Data Science Analyst/Engineer will lead data extraction and analysis projects using both internal NYULH electronic health record (EHR) data and a variety of external data sources, including imaging data and other neurological datasets.The NDH is part of the cutting-edge and rapidly growing data ecosystem of research data hubs and related services at NYULH. The NDH is dedicated to supporting the big data needs of neurology research at NYULH. This includes facilitating data access, providing direct analytic support to research teams, developing custom in-house data tools, and building community and sharing knowledge among research investigators and data analysts. The NDH has equally strong ties to the Department of Neurology and the IT department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Data Extraction
- Retrieve requested data from NYULHs EHR database and other sources in support of neurology research projects. Data will be formatted to requested specifications for delivery to research teams.
- Disease-specific registries will be created
- Data Analysis and Visualization
- Conduct analyses ranging from data aggregation to complex modeling to interactive data visualization using various data sources.
- Create user-friendly dashboards for easier access to data for research teams.
- Review and interpret analytic requests with stakeholders including: study team requesters, IT colleagues, data owners, and data ecosystem collaborators.
- Design and build data solutions using state-of-the-art machine learning and informatics methods; deploy and integrate these products within the larger ecosystem of healthcare infrastructure at NYULMC.
- Work with large, complex, and noisy clinical datasets for solving challenging problems in the healthcare domain.
- Data Management
- Manage maintenance, updates, and sharing with researchers (in accordance with institutional policy) of neurology databases.
- Build and engineer workflows to collect, store, clean, and process structured as well as unstructured data, verify their integrity and appropriateness for specific business processes and analytics systems.
- Data Infrastructure Expertise
- Participate in trainings and gain and share expertise in new enterprise data infrastructure tools, such as Databricks.
- Data Source Expertise
- Acquire content expertise working with high-value neurology data sources such as imaging data and radiology reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree in Public Health, Informatics, or related field.
5+ years of experience in health sciences research, public health, or a related field.
Excellent data analysis skills, including:
o Very strong SQL skills, including the ability to optimize code against very large databases.
o Expertise in R and/or Python.
o Data visualization tools such as Tableau, Plotly, R, Shiny.
o Strong foundational skills in computer science.
o Comfortable with basic natural language processing (enough to write some basic regular expressions, string operations, and basic API calls to an LLM).
Knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, and best practices.
A resourceful problem-solving approach to analytic tasks.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse array of teams (IT, research, etc.).
Ability to work independently.
A reliable customer-service attitude.
Willingness to ask questions in order to fill knowledge gaps.
Readiness to participate actively in internal community discussion forums.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in health informatics.
Prior experience working with electronic health record or other large real-world health data would be a major plus!
Experience working with imaging data and image processing.
Familiarity with data normalization/standardization and common data models such as OMOP.
Experience developing interactive data visualizations.
A background working in a clinical setting or understanding of clinical workflows.
Experience applying AI/ML approaches to health data.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
A passion for neurology research and data.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $64,350.00 - $93,483.52 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
