Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Communications and Marketing protects and advances Carolina's reputation as the nation's first and best public research university. In partnership with leaders and colleagues across campus, the team is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated strategy to share the impact of our university's teaching, research and service that improves our state, nation and world. Areas within University Communications and Marketing include Web Planning and Production, Internal Communications, Executive Communications, Strategic Communications, Marketing, Social Media, Creative Services, and the UNC Visitors Center.
Position Summary
The Project Coordinator supports the operational project management, planning, execution, and delivery of cross-functional communications and marketing projects that advance Carolina's mission and brand. Reporting to the Director of Business Operations, this role scopes work, builds schedules and budgets, coordinates creative and technical resources, manages stakeholders, mitigates risk, and ensures on-time, on-brief delivery for campus clients and UCM initiatives. The Project Coordinator is a key connector across creative services, content, web, strategic communications, brand activation, and analytics supporting a centralized/shared-services model that emphasizes clarity, efficiency, and impact.

The individual in this position is a skilled problem solver with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, has a positive attitude, and displays a willingness and flexibility to help meet department/university goals in any capacity. Efficiency and expert-level organizational skills are a must and managing expectations is as important as managing projects. The individual in this position takes initiative and is results oriented.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Demonstrated success managing multi-channel campaigns or creative/web projects with multiple stakeholders and vendors.
* Experience using project management platforms (e.g., Asana, Wrike, Monday.com, Jira), Microsoft 365, and collaborative review/approval tools.
* Strong communication, facilitation, and documentation skills; ability to translate strategy into tasks and timelines.
* Ability to manage scope, schedule, budgets, and risk in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience in higher education, government, or other complex matrixed organizations.
* Familiarity with brand governance, creative production workflows, web content management (WordPress or similar), media relations cycles, and basic analytics/reporting.
