Explosion Safety Consultant - Latin America

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for an Explosion Safety Consultant - Latin America position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.



Job Summary:

The Explosion Safety Consultant will be responsible for conducting explosion safety consultancy projects throughout the Americas, with a focus on Latin America. These include conducting dust hazard analysis, process hazard analysis, risk assessments and hazardous area classification, issuing recommendations to eliminate and mitigate the risks of dust and gas explosions, and providing related guidance to customers, assuring compliance to ATEX/NFPA regulations and other country-specific standards. Additionally to these tasks, the Explosion Safety Consultant will work in conjunction with the commercial team to expand business development activities. The Explosion Safety Consultant will report to the Global Explosion Protection Consultancy Manager based in the US.



Primary Responsibilities:

Main consultancy activities:



  1. Conducts Dust Hazard Analysis and/or ATEX Risk Assessments that identify fire, flash-fire, and explosion hazards and describes measures to be taken to eliminate and mitigate the risk of explosions and/or fire.
  2. Conducts hazardous area classifications.
  3. Conducts Process Hazard Analysis, such as HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie and What-If? Studies.
  4. Analyzes consequences of a gas or dust explosions e.g. by working with third-party CFD explosion modelling consultants.
  5. Provides general guidance to customers such as advice on fire and explosion prevention and mitigation equipment selection, appropriate training, working procedures, and maintenance.
  6. Provides detailed written and verbal communication of results along with recommendations of expectations to the customer as well as coordination with the commercial person responsible in order for the technical findings to be presented appropriately.
  7. Defines combustible dust and flammable gas testing needs required for explosion risk assessments.



Commercial activities:



  1. Supports commercial opportunities where Fike consultancy services have been requested by customers.
  2. Develops and continuously improves reproducible sets of site visit processes, procedures, and deliverables to each customer based on the Fike consultancy service provided.
  3. Supports complex protection design projects as a subject matter expert.



Growth and process related activities:



  1. Develops training materials and provides training to develop internal knowledge on the Fike consultancy offering.
  2. Develops presentation and training material exhibiting Fike consultancy in conjunction with product management in order to support the commercial teams with public presentation, webinars, site visits, and customer requests that require technical expertise.
  3. Supports marketing to drive lead generation for the Fike consultancy offering.
  4. Identifies and develops best practices with supporting templates and documents to efficiently service Fike customers.
  5. Participates in internal product and engineering committees to help drive new research and product development
  6. Speaks at Industry events and webinars to help represent Fike's consultancy services and expertise.
  7. Develops relationships with customers to drive consultancy business and Fike equipment sales.



Other activities:



  1. Maintains professional and technical knowledge and stays up to date on changes within codes and standards.
  2. Represents Fike in country-specific and regional standardization committees on explosion prevention and protection.
  3. Shares insights and knowledge within the Fike consultancy and commercial departments.
  4. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and, use hands. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally regularly.



Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Three years or more of experience in the explosion protection industry. Proven track record in conducting explosion safety consulting activities. Ability to work collaboratively. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally to meet with customers, distributors, industry experts, and Fike personnel. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Knowledge of the applicable codes and standards (EN/ISO, NFPA, FM, ATEX, VDI). Must speak English and Spanish fluently.



PREFERRED: Established knowledge of Fike products and services. Master's Degree or higher. Fluent in Portuguese.
