Job Requirements

The Test Engineer II is responsible for supporting all aspects of software testing for their team. They leverage their engineering skills and testing mindset to build, maintain, and continuously improve automated and manual testing systems to ensure delivery of high-quality software products. The Test Engineer II works independently within their testing scope but collaborates closely with developers, DevOps engineers, and product teams to identify defects early, reduce risk, and promote efficient, reliable releases.

The Impact You Will Create:

This project supports the modernization of a large-scale federal disclosure and data management platform. The work involves designing, developing, and maintaining a secure, cloud-based system that improves how information is submitted, processed, and accessed by the public. The team will leverage Agile, DevSecOps, and user-centered design practices to deliver scalable, high-impact digital services that enhance transparency, compliance, and accessibility. Efforts include building modern APIs and web interfaces, implementing Zero Trust security, automating testing and deployments, and driving continuous improvement through cloud-native and AI-enabled solutions.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:

  • Develop, document, and execute test plans, test cases, test scripts, and bug reports to ensure system quality and reliability.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, contract, end-to-end) using modern testing frameworks and tools appropriate for the product and environment.
  • Create and maintain test documentation, ensuring test cases are current, traceable, and aligned with requirements.
  • Apply a systematic approach to debugging, diagnosing, and resolving issues within and across services, sometimes in collaboration with senior engineers.
  • Work with developers to ensure code is easily testable, clear, and accounts for edge cases, expected errors, and exceptional conditions.
  • Evaluate the cost, value, and risk of testing approaches, recommending the most efficient and effective solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous integration (CI/CD) pipelines, helping integrate automated tests into the deployment process
  • Perform functional, regression, performance, and security testing as needed, using both manual and automated methods.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure test coverage and quality metrics meet organizational and customer requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews, helping enforce testing best practices and improve testability of software components.
  • Display personal leadership, professionalism, and teamwork to foster a collaborative, positive team culture.
  • Support testing within AWS cloud environments, ensuring infrastructure and applications are validated across distributed systems.


Work Experience

Skills and Qualifications We Require at Fearless:

  • 4+ years of experience in software testing, quality assurance, or software engineering roles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor's degree or higher required
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including unit, integration, system, regression, and performance testing.
  • Hands-on experience writing automated test scripts using tools and frameworks such as JUnit, PyTest, Cypress, Selenium, or Postman/Newman.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, or GitLab CI.
  • Experience testing in AWS environments, including using AWS services for test automation and environment provisioning.
  • Proficiency with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured) and load/performance testing frameworks (e.g., JMeter, Locust).
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservice architectures.
  • Understanding of test data management, mocking, and stubbing techniques for service isolation.
  • Experience using defect tracking and documentation tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence,TestRail).
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to trace complex system interactions and identify root causes.
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java, or TypeScript).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively with developers, designers, and product managers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $91,554

Salary Midpoint: $119,020

Maximum Salary: $146,486

Hiring Range for Role: $91,554 - $119,020

*For part-time roles, the salary will be pro-rated based on the full-time equivalent salary ranges listed above.
