Primary Purpose of Department
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics ( OIEA) is created to coordinate the planning, assessment, and institutional research activities that advance the University's mission. The unit combines the resources of the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support, the Office of Assessment and Accreditation, and a dotted-line relationship to Academic and Research Space Planning. This model provides enhanced opportunity for cross-functional teams to address the major questions that the University will address. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics ( OIEA, Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics, IEA) is being established with the approval of Chancellor Sharon Gaber and at this time in the University's development to accelerate improvements made over the last decade. Over the last ten years, the Office of Institutional Research and the Office of Assessment and Accreditation have provided data, analyses, and support that have contributed to University's critical, upward trajectory on numerous measures, in an increasingly competitive environment of higher education. The Office of Assessment and Accreditation has provided guidance in student learning outcomes that has enabled greater numbers of students to succeed and graduate. The Office of Institutional Research has provided analyses regarding student progress that facilitated student success. Both offices work in close collaboration with leaders and teams in all colleges and the service units with direct responsibilities for student success. The new organizational structure will foster organization of flexible teams, using the expertise in assessment, planning, institutional research, and decision support within Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics and across the campus to address the significant questions and challenges facing the University.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Faculty Activity Reporting ( FAR) System Manager is the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for the university's enterprise-wide faculty data management system. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate and efficient collection, maintenance, and reporting of faculty activities and accomplishments, which supports the annual evaluation, promotion, tenure, and accreditation processes and reporting to the UNC System Office. The Manager reports to the Associate Provost, Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support, and provides strategic guidance and technical support to optimize system usage.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
System Management & Optimization

  • Manage the ongoing development, enhancement, and maintenance of the FAR system.
  • Work directly with the software vendor on application upgrades, changes, and ticket resolution.
  • Lead the implementation of the university's annual plan for the reporting solution, ensuring data is clean, tested, and validated.
  • Proactively notify leadership of any delays, vulnerabilities, or risks related to the system's annual plan.
  • Make business decisions to configure and optimize the system for campus needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of major business processes within academic affairs to guide system improvements.


Workflow Management & Reporting

  • Manage the "workflow" side of the system to track and manage faculty evaluation processes, including the flow of reviews and approvals for annual evaluations, promotion, and tenure.
  • Design and build custom reports and templates for various evaluation and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with Department Chairs and other academic leaders to ensure the system effectively captures and analyzes data for accreditation and institutional goals.
  • Work with the Office of the Provost to ensure platform changes align with university policy and the faculty handbook.

Training, Communication & Support

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training materials and workshops for faculty and staff.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the FAR system, providing ongoing support and assistance to end-users.
  • Lead and manage a faculty advisory council, which provides oversight of the information included in the faculty activity reporting system.
  • Lead a team of graduate or undergraduate students to assist faculty with data entry and information gathering for the system.
  • Work with the Provost's Office to execute a formal communication plan for the system and provide timely updates to users.
  • Develop support procedures to simplify processes and create efficiencies for campus users and administrative offices.
  • Maintain a glossary of terms to ensure consistent data definitions across the institution.

Minimum Education/Experience


  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Research, or Statistics.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education administration, academic affairs, or a related field. Direct experience with an enterprise-level faculty activity reporting system, such as Watermark Faculty Success, is highly desirable. Experience supervising staff or students is also preferred.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Direct experience with an enterprise-level faculty activity reporting system, such as Watermark Faculty Success, is highly desirable. Experience supervising staff or students is also preferred.
  • Strong technical aptitude with proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and workflow management. Demonstrated ability to gather and interpret data and create reports using charts and statistical applications. Proficiency with MS Excel and statistical analysis software. Experience with SQL or other report development tools is preferred. Knowledge of database concepts and experience in preparing data for accreditation processes is also preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to audiences at all levels.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of organization. The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while working independently and in a highly collaborative team environment.
