Description and Requirements

Lenovo is seeking a business-solutions-driven Vice President to support its Intelligent Devices Group (IDG), consisting of its PC and mobile handset businesses, in addition to the Group Operations organization (GOO), consisting of the Global Supply Chain, Strategic Alliances, Digital Transformation, and Customer Experience functions. The position will report to Lenovo's SVP and Chief Legal Officer. The ideal candidate will be located in Chicago, IL or Raleigh, NC, however remote candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities include proactively advising IDG senior leadership and their global business teams in areas such as product and service development and offerings, IP licensing and disputes, alternative/creative business models, supply chain and distribution issues, strategic partnerships, regulatory compliance and commercial disputes. Further, the position will act as an interface and liaison for other Corporate Legal functions such as IP, Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy, Commercial Contracts and Litigation, the Geo Legal teams and Government Relations & Trade. The candidate should be knowledgeable in the mechanics and economics of the electronics manufacturing industry, and familiar with the pace of an innovative technology company. S/he is expected to be a trusted business advisor and collaborative team member in pursuing key global business initiatives. The position will be member of the Legal Department's Senior Leadership team and will interface directly with and participate in meetings with IDG's leadership team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • JD Degree from a top-tier US law school.
  • 20+ years post-qualification experience advising global companies, along with strong business and financial acumen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PC and mobile industry experience with a strategic grasp of IP; experience with IP litigation, and licensing a plus.
  • Experience negotiating with tier one business partners such as Microsoft, Meta, Google and Qualcomm Familiarity with AI software and the AI ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements applicable to a dynamic and ever-changing business. Currently licensed to practice in US.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity. Strategic agility.
  • Strength in "issue-spotting" based on broad exposure to multiple fields of law.
  • Sound judgment and advanced analytical skills.
  • Ability to anticipate, proactively manage and mitigate legal risks, and to effectively advise on risk management and mitigation.
  • Capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • "Executive presence" and experience engaging with senior-level colleagues and clients globally. Supervisory experience, serving as coach, sponsor and ally.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (including legal drafting).
  • Ability to work together as a team player with other functional legal subject matter experts.
  • Ability to zealously represent IDG's and the GOO's interests and leverage relationships with equally as sophisticated vendors and customers.
  • Ability to assess legal matters quickly, and calmly, absorbing shocks in order to present a clear and coherent response in stressful situations.

Desired Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in business or engineering a plus.
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience.
  • Innovative/creative and practical in crafting solutions that both enable and protect business interests.
  • Intelligent, calm, influential demeanor, with the willingness to roll up their sleeves and dig in.
  • Deep understanding of dynamics and key business drivers in the technology industry.
  • Track record of structuring and negotiating commercial transactions involving complex technologies.

The base salary budgeted range for this position is 250k - 350K. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission.
