SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
NextDecade is seeking a full-time Process Engineer to support long-term operations for the Rio Grande LNG facility located near Brownsville, Texas . The incumbent will report to the Senior Manager, Process Engineering in the Operations Engineering Department, under the leadership of the Director of Process Engineering. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support day-to-day plant operations and optimize plant performance for maximum production and efficiency, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Conduct equilibrium, non-equilibrium and dynamic simulation efforts and associate heat and material balance to predict the behavior of LNG processes and identify potential improvements.
  • Participate in risk assessment to ensure safety and reliability during operations.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize LNG processes to improve production efficiency and reduce costs. Analyze process data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Propose and implement initiatives for continuous improvement in LNG processes and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of process designs, simulations, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure Key Process Indicators (KPIs) for process unit operations are monitored including fouling freezing in process units' thermal efficiency, etc.
  • Participation in PHA/HAZOP and safety case procedures for recommended process design and/or operational modifications.
  • Investigate process-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure that all process deliverables conform to industry regulatory compliance standards and recommended practices for safety, environmental and process design.
  • Ensure all processes comply with environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct process design effort for process improvements, plant debottlenecking and expansion studies, including developing process design basis and functional specifications, scope of work.
  • Ensure process engineering for intercompany teams, such as Operations, Maintenance, Process Control, Reliability, Quality, Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), Document Control, etc.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines, operations and maintenance teams to ensure seamless troubleshooting or projects executions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's in chemical engineering
  • 5+ years of experience as a Process Engineer within Oil & Gas/Energy, preferably within the LNG, gas, petrochemical or refining industry.
  • Experience with some of the following unit operations: acid gas removal systems, molecular sieve dehydration, mercury removal beds, NGL recovery or fractionation and refrigeration systems.
  • Experience background in developing steady state (equilibrium) process simulations and associated heat and material balances (Asptench HYSYS or Honeywell UniSim)
  • Experience with process equipment selection, sizing.
  • Experience with Haward Identifications Studies (HAZIDs), Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs).
  • Knowledge and experience with applicable industry standards (e.g. NFPA, API, ASME) regulatory codes, and recommended practices.
  • Travel periodically to Houston and other U.S locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with Air Products & Chemicals, Inc (APCI) Propane Precooled Mixed Refrigerant Process (C3MR)
  • Operations experience with commissioning / start-up or turn-around experience preferred
  • Knowledge of basic regulatory, advanced regulatory, and advanced process controls
  • Familiarity with Seeq / IOTA or OSI-PI in developing monitoring pages for operations

* Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required.
