State Policy Associate

About the role:

The State Policy Associate will work with the Associate Director of State Policy, the Manager of State Legislative Affairs and the Government Relations policy team to monitor, analyze, and produce written materials related to state reproductive freedom policy actions, including legislation, executive and agency actions, and relevant litigation. They will have the opportunity to serve as the Government Relations point person for specific regions and work cross-departmentally to advance proactive policy and defend against anti-abortion attacks at the state level, as well as support electoral work including research on state-level elected officials.

This Position Is: Full Time, Union, Non-Exempt

Salary: $50,000 - $58,000

Responsibilities:

• Track, review, and analyze reproductive freedom legislation, litigation, and policy developments at the state level as part of the state Government Relations team;
• Serve as the Government Relations point person on state legislative and executive actions for assigned states and work collaboratively within Reproductive Freedom for All's chapter states to advance state-level advocacy campaigns;
• Write, edit, and update policy memos, fact sheets, preparatory materials for legislative hearings, and other policy and advocacy documents;
• Conduct electoral research on state level elected officials and candidates in coordination with the Political department, ensuring transparency and equity in the research process;
• Review external-facing, cross-department materials for policy accuracy, including press releases, talking points, emails to members, and other materials;
• Help craft publications identifying trends in state legislative policy;
• Represent Reproductive Freedom for All with coalitions, legislators, and other partners as needed, promoting collaboration and inclusion in external partnerships and advocacy efforts;
• Attend in-person events with elected officials and their staff as a representative of Reproductive Freedom for All;
• Support electoral work in collaboration with the political department by attending campaign events, fundraisers, and other political events to develop relationships and advance our legislative goals; and
• Additional duties may be assigned consistent with the responsibilities and qualifications in this job description.

Qualifications:

• Commitment to Reproductive Freedom for All's mission, values, and goals;
• Four-year college degree, plus 1-3 years' work experience required. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for up to two years of experience;
• Previous experience conducting policy and/or legal analysis, research, and writing;
• Experience working in a state capitol and/or familiarity with state legislative or executive policy processes;
• Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while meeting deadlines consistently with minimal supervision;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to efficiently manage multiple tasks and timelines simultaneously;

• Ability and desire to work for policies that support members of marginalized communities in alignment with Reproductive Freedom for All's values and the organization's intersectional commitments;
