Position Description

Position Overview:

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced Project Managers and Virtual Construction professionals on mechanical construction projects in an industrial setting. Interns will gain hands-on experience both at job sites and in the office, learning the fundamentals of project engineering and fabrication through real-world applications. The role is designed to prepare interns for future full-time roles as Project Engineers by developing skills in communication, scheduling, document control, BIM coordination, and field collaboration.

What You'll Do:

  1. Shop Exposure: Spend time in fabrication shops, observing and assisting with daily operations, safety protocols, and project coordination.
  2. Project Support: Assist Project Managers with tracking project progress, managing documentation, and coordinating with field and fabrication teams.
  3. Material & Equipment Coordination: Help monitor deliveries, inventory, and procurement of major equipment and materials.
  4. Document Management: Learn to maintain project documentation in compliance with company standards and contract requirements.
  5. Technical Review: Support the review of drawings, specifications, RFIs, and fabrication packages under the guidance of the project team.
  6. Scheduling Assistance: Collaborate with field supervisors and VCS teams to help organize and update project schedules and fabrication timelines.
  7. Safety Participation: Attend safety meetings.
  8. BIM & Coordination Exposure: Assist with coordination meetings to understand how virtual construction supports field execution.

Learning Opportunities:

  1. Gain exposure to estimating, change order processes, and subcontractor coordination.
  2. Learn how to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and field personnel.
  3. Understand the basics of mechanical systems, fabrication workflows, and virtual construction tools.
  4. Participate in internal project planning, kickoff, and review meetings.
  5. Observe the integration of VCS and fabrication in industrial construction projects.
Position Requirements

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Strong interest in industrial construction, fabrication, and virtual construction technologies.
  3. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  4. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn construction software tools such as Bluebeam, BIM360, Revit, and Smartsheet.
  5. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
