Job Summary

Manages nursing and administrative operations in specific patient care areas. Implements changes to patient workflows and operational processes. Maintains 24 hour line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material and human resources. Direct reports are typically supervisor level.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $234,800 - $256,600 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher level degree of nursing education required
  • 5 years' experience with Perianesthesia clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Recent administrative experience in a Perianesthesia; for example, previous experience as an Assistant Unit Director or Manager in the PACU.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions
  • Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, critical events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills. Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines.Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of Lean principles and change management preferred

License/Certification


  • Master's Degree in Nursing or relevant area preferred.
  • PALS preferred
  • CPAN or CAPA preferred
