In Vehicle Test Engineer, Steering, Vehicle Software

Help Deliver Precision Steering for Cybercab and Full Self-Driving. We are seeking a Steering Controls Vehicle Test Engineer to shape the future of steering technology that makes Cybercab and unsupervised Full Self-Driving possible. You will test and validate safety-critical steering control software across vehicle platforms, including electric power assisted steering and advanced steer-by-wire systems-the precise lateral control layer that turns autonomy decisions into confident, real-world vehicle motion. You will spend most of your time at proving grounds executing dynamic and at-limit driving maneuvers in prototype vehicles, modifying and flashing steering software, and analyzing how hardware and software changes impact control systems, vehicle attributes, and the exceptional performance required for robotaxi operation.

You will collaborate closely with software, controls, and vehicle dynamics engineers to understand requirements, attribute philosophies, and system changes. Your objective measurements and subjective evaluations will be critical to ensuring steering systems meet the highest safety standards while delivering the smooth, responsive, and reliable feel that lets Cybercab and FSD vehicles perform at their best in every scenario. This role involves approximately 30% travel to proving grounds worldwide and offers the chance to directly influence industry-leading steering technologies that bring scalable autonomy to life. • Execute in-vehicle test cases tovalidatesteering control systems

• Provide in-vehicle controllability assessments for prototype steering software

• Design and develop new test cases and procedures for electric powerassistedsteering and steer-by-wire systems

• Document both objective measurements and subjective feedback on vehicle behavior

• Build a strong understanding of steering software to translate changes into updated test requirements

• Collaborate with cross-functional engineers on software and hardware changes, solutions, and requirements

• Travel seasonally to global proving grounds (approximately 30%)

• Applyproficiencyin software development workflows, including compiling software,tuningparameters, and independently investigating issues

• Bachelor's Degree inMechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering , Computer Science,or similar areas of study, or equivalent experience

• Hands-on experience with vehicle testing, racing, or at-limit driving

• Strong written communication skills for clear documentation and reporting

• Ability to work independently and deliver results against high-level goals without daily oversight

• Proving Ground certification (preferred)

• Experience with software scripting (Python or similar)

• Familiarity withVector CANtools(CANape, CANalyzer), data logging systems, and electronic diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes (preferred)

• Experience using Git Version Control (preferred)
