Job Summary:

The University Information Technology Services (UITS) department of the University of Massachusetts is seeking a UMass student Intern for an Automation and Full Stack Development Intern who wants to assist a dynamic team of technology professionals supporting the institution's mission, "To enable UMASS to provide an affordable and accessible education of high quality and to conduct programs of research and public service that advance knowledge and improve the lives of the people of the Commonwealth, the nation and the world."

Essential Functions:

The Automation and Full Stack Development Intern has the following responsibilities:



  • Assist in development for Automation and Full stack development projects using various tools and platforms (UiPath/RPA, AWS etc.).
  • Help Full stack and RPA developers create new features, fix bugs while learning best practices of how to develop RPA and full stack applications.
  • Maintain software documentation.
  • Assist in manual functional testing, document results and writing automated functional tests.
  • Analyze business requirements and help develop solutions for Automation requests and cloud first native applications.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather, refine and document requirements/Process Definition Documents (PDD).
  • Create user personas, user stories and wireframes.


Other Functions:



  • Assist with other projects as needed.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):



  • Current UMass student who is enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Curious, motivated and willing to learn new technologies and skills.
  • Capable of working effectively as part of a team and individually.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills.


Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):



  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Experience with Full Stack development stack and technologies - HTML/CSS/JavaScript (React/NodeJS/NextJS) REST APIs, VS Code.
  • Experience with cloud native technologies like AWS S3 buckets, Serverless Lambda, serverless architecture etc.
  • Knowledge of with version control systems such as GitHub and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and other platforms such as UiPath RPA, Salesforce, Form Assembly, Heroku etc.
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g. Postgres).
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 A and AA requirements.


Additional Details:

Part time 20 hours per week; $17.00 hourly rate. Any offers of an internship within the President's Office is specifically conditioned upon the potential candidate consenting to and successfully completing a background review.
