Job Summary


Employment Duration: 3 months

The Senior Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides high-quality nursing care to GYN and Urogynecology patients within UCSF Women's Health. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration with physicians and nursing staff, this role supports clinical operations, enhances the patient experience, and ensures safe, efficient patient flow in a fast-paced ambulatory environment.

The LVN plays a key role in patient care, clinical support, patient education, and coordination across the care team. This position requires strong communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize and respond effectively in a dynamic clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment & Care

  • Observe and identify patient needs and responses to treatment.
  • Recognize and report physical or emotional concerns to the care team.
  • Assist with complex procedures including:
  • Manual Uterine Aspiration
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Cystoscopy
  • Urodynamics testing
  • Provide individualized nursing care appropriate to adolescent and adult patients.
  • Prepare exam rooms and complete patient intake, ensuring privacy and comfort.
  • Administer medications and document administration accurately.
  • Respond appropriately during emergencies; maintain knowledge of emergency procedures.

Care Coordination & Documentation

  • Manage patient flow and adjust clinical support activities based on changing priorities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Document patient information, interventions, and responses in APeX accurately and timely.
  • Utilize UCSF information systems to support continuity of care.
  • Maintain professional, courteous communication in person and via telephone.

Patient Education & Advocacy

  • Assist in identifying patient education needs and provide clear, understandable instructions.
  • Support patients in making informed decisions using available resources and referrals.
  • Provide and reinforce health teaching using approved patient education materials.

Performance Improvement & Professional Development

  • Participate in performance improvement activities and provide recommendations.
  • Follow safety, infection control, and compliance policies.
  • Attend trainings, workshops, and staff meetings relevant to practice needs.
  • Support orientation and learning for new team members.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • 1-3 years of experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • Experience in a fast-paced OBGYN environment
  • Strong communication and patient-support skills
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
  • Experience administering injections and drawing labs

  • Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license
  • AHA CPR certification
