Position Summary:

Vascular Access Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, organizing and evaluating patient care interventions and their effect on outcome. The Vascular Access Nurse must demonstrate critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation, planning, coordination and provision of care for the patient while performing clinical insertion of a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, Midline, Extended Dwell catheter or IV catheter as directed by direct supervisor. The Vascular Access Specialist is responsible and accountable for placement and monitoring of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, Midline, Extended Dwell catheter or IV catheters with minimal supervision, under the order of a Medical Doctor or a Licensed Independent Practitioner and in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act and hospital/department policies. Must demonstrate knowledge and skill to carry out the nursing process when providing patient care, satisfies established standards of nursing practice, and promotes teamwork with physicians, facility personnel and with other departments. Responsible for independently utilizing the nursing process to safely, therapeutically and efficiently care for a group of patients based on policies and procedures. Candidate must have proficient IV and or PICC insertions skills for the Geriatric and Adult population. Complies with the California Nurse Practice Act, Article 2, Section 2725 of the Business and Professions Code.

Required Qualifications:

• Current CA RN License
• Current BLS
• Current ACLS
• Experienced in working in ICU/ER/Cath Lab or PICC Line experience
• PICC Line Certification within 90 days of hire date
• Must have computer knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office
• Ability to learn advanced vascular access procedures for Geriatric and Adult patients
• Minimum of six (6) months nursing experience
• External candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in nursing or above
• Position involves standing and walking for long periods of time, approximately 75% of the workday
• Sitting is approximately 25%
• Must be able to transfer and lift patients as necessary (Weight will vary from patient to patient)
• Must have the dexterity, coordination, and visual and auditory acuity to perform all job responsibilities
• Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
