In this role, we are seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and execution of high-voltage transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV. This position plays a key technical role in delivering safe, cost-effective, and reliable transmission line designs while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.

You will serve as a technical expert in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and transmission line structural and civil design, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and client requirements throughout the project lifecycle-from conceptual development through construction support.

Your Responsibilities will Include:

Lead and perform design and analysis of overhead transmission lines, including structure selection, routing, line modeling, and foundation engineering.
  • Develop and review:
    • PLS-CADD models and structure spotting
    • Plan & profile drawings
    • Structure loading calculations (PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, MFAD, FAD Tools)
    • Conductor sag/tension analysis
    • Foundation designs (drilled shaft, direct embed, micropile, grillage)
    • Lightning protection and grounding systems
    • Detailed bill of materials and construction packages
  • Apply and ensure compliance with industry standards (NESC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, GO95, RUS, etc.).
  • Interpret survey data, environmental constraints, and utility standards into constructible designs.
  • Project & Client Support
  • Work directly with clients, utilities, permitting agencies, and contractors throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Provide technical support during bidding, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Conduct site visits, walkdowns, and construction inspections; provide engineering solutions to resolve field issues.
  • Support the development of cost estimates, schedules, and design packages for EPC and traditional design-bid-build projects.
  • Assist with Owner's Engineer services including vendor review, design QA/QC, and field verification.

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Serve as engineering lead or discipline lead on complex transmission projects.
  • Provide mentoring and technical direction to junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations, design packages, and construction documents for quality assurance.
  • Support proposal writing and scope development for transmission line opportunities.
  • Required Qualifications

Education & Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state (or ability to obtain via reciprocity).

To Thrive in This Role, You Will need:

  • 8+ years of experience in high-voltage transmission line engineering (69kV-500kV).
  • Proficiency in:
    • PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and/or PLS-TOWER
    • Foundation analysis tools such as MFAD, LPILE, or FAD Tools
    • Microsoft Office Suite and technical calculation tools (e.g., Mathcad)
  • Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, and applicable utility standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in transmission engineering.
  • Prior experience on EPC, design-build, or Owner's Engineer projects.
  • Familiarity with:
    • AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS
    • Sag10, CDEGS, or other power system modeling tools
    • Cost estimating and construction specifications development
