  • Develop detailed construction work packages using industry-standard tools (AutoCAD, DDS, GIS, SAP, MicroStation, PoleForeman, SpidaCalc, O-Calc, etc.).
  • Perform engineering calculations such as pole loading, guying, voltage drop, flicker analysis, conductor sizing, cable pulling, and protective device coordination.
  • Conduct field assessments and site visits to collect critical data and verify existing conditions.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians to ensure high-quality deliverables and professional development.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure all work complies with NESC, NEC, RUS, DOT, and other jurisdictional codes and client standards.
  • Coordinate with permitting authorities, right-of-way specialists, utilities, municipalities, and third-party owners for approvals and joint-use agreements.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering and design packages prepared by peers and junior staff.
  • Support construction efforts with engineering guidance, redlines, and post-construction validation.
  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis and technical problem-solving for distribution system outages or reliability improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, utility representatives, and field teams to resolve technical issues.

Education & Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical distribution design, specifically for OH and UG utility systems.

To Thrive in This Role, You Will Need:

  • Proven ability to develop and review construction work packages for distribution networks (4kV - 138kV).
  • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC, and utility engineering standards and best practices.
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, Distribution Design Studio (DDS), and GIS-based platforms.
  • Experience with pole analysis and design software such as PoleForeman, SpidaCalc, or O-Calc.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead field walks, perform field measurements, and assess constructability.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Team leadership experience with direct reports or cross-functional team oversight.
  • Experience with Work Management Systems (WMS) and SAP.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and Right-of-Way (ROW) acquisition.
  • Experience supporting storm response or emergency restoration is a plus.
  • Familiarity with joint-use and make-ready engineering (MRE).
  • Knowledge of RUS standards and design for rural cooperatives.
