| Position Summary |
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, is seeking a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD academic Clinical Cytogeneticist for a tenure-track/tenured, fixed-term, or variable track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The
UNC Hospitals Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory is a full-service laboratory which performs both constitutional (prenatal and postnatal) and cancer cytogenetic testing on approximately 4,500 cases annually. Responsibilities of this position will include oversight and direction of the day-to-day operations of the clinical cytogenetics diagnostic service, laboratory case sign-out (conventional cytogenetics,
FISH, and
SNP microarray), technical and analytical troubleshooting, and new assay development.
All Laboratory faculty are expected to teach a variety of learners, including medical students, pathology and medical genetics residents, and fellows from various programs including Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Molecular Genetic Pathology, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Opportunities also exist to engage in a variety of ongoing research projects including several that involve next generation sequencing. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
The ideal applicant will be board-certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics, both Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics and Genomics, or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, with training and several years of job experience in constitutional and cancer cytogenetics, as well as molecular methods. Newly board-certified or board-eligible individuals are, however, strongly encouraged to apply. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
For those with certification or fellowship training in both Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, a combined role in both the Cytogenetic and Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories is available. |
