Engineer I - Utilities

RK&K is hiring a creative and motivated Civil Engineer with a focus on water distribution and sanitary sewer collection to join our Utility design team in Raleigh, NC. As an engineer with our utilities team, you will learn drafting, how to determine conflicts with water and sewer lines, and design/develop relocation plans for water and sanitary sewer facilities impacted by roadway projects throughout North Carolina.

Essential Functions:

• Analyze existing water and sanitary sewer facilities for conflicts with proposed roadway, drainage, traffic control and structure designs. Coordinate with other design disciplines to eliminate conflicts when possible.
• Prepare plans, specifications and estimates for water and sanitary sewer relocations due to impacts from transportation projects
• Assist with the preparation and review of environmental impacts and permitting requirements and construction permit applications, reports and drawings.
• Coordinate with in house disciplines on Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build transportation projects to deliver wholistic efficient designs
• Occasional field investigations and meetings required

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

• Zero (0) to Three (3) + years of Utilities Design and Engineering supporting transportation and/or water/wastewater programs
• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related (STEM)
• Engineer Intern (F.E.) or ability to obtain F.E license in the state of NC within twelve months
• AutoCAD experience is acceptable if you are willing to learn MicroStation. The vast majority of transportation projects are designed with MicroStation.
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative team but the initiative to work individually and take on additional projects as needed
• Excellent customer service, communication and presentation skills are required

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:

• Experience with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) design projects
• MicroStation, GeoPak, Civil 3D experience is highly preferred
