Safety and Crashworthiness Performance Engineer
- This new position is incorporated into SI's Vehicle Development & Testing group, with full responsibility for all pre-SOP safety-related vehicle development activities.
- The role closely collaborates with CAE and Test teams and aligns with the responsibilities of Namyang Safety ISDG teams (Safety Performance Test Teams 1 and 2).
- The Safety & Crashworthiness Performance Engineer will plan, execute, and analyze safety-related tests to qualify new models for release and support North American safety rating achievements.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Plan, coordinate, and execute full-vehicle and component-level crash tests (frontal, side, rear, rollover, static, and subsystem tests).
- Develop detailed test plans, procedures, instrumentation layouts, and data acquisition requirements.
- Oversee test preparation, including vehicle builds, sensor installation, dummy preparation, and facility readiness.
- Analyze crash test data, videos, and high-speed measurements to evaluate structural performance, occupant injury metrics, and safety system function.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and engineering recommendations to support design improvements.
- Collaborate with CAE teams to correlate simulation results with physical test outcomes.
- Support development of future models by identifying safety risks and proposing countermeasures.
- Ensure compliance with global regulatory and consumer test standards (FMVSS, NCAP, IIHS, CMVSS, etc.).
- Manage communication with internal and external stakeholders, including proving grounds, suppliers, and safety rating agencies.
- Maintain documentation, test records, and quality systems for audit and traceability.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
- Strong knowledge in automotive structure, crashworthiness, and safety
- Strong knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS), NCAP, and IIHS safety evaluations
- Expertise in testing, test equipment, and test processes necessary to meet vehicle requirements
- Expertise in analysis of crash test data (structural and occupant)
- Experience using test data analysis tools is ideal (Diadaem, Hyperworks, TEMA, etc.)
- Knowledge of simulation (structure and occupant) to provide direction to CAE team
- Knowledge of Automotive industry engineering and manufacturing

- MS Mechanical Engineering OR
- BS Mechanical Engineering OR
- BS Biomechanical Engineering
- 1 - 5 yrs of experience
