HATCI's activities include product planning, design, quality, testing/evaluation, and new technology development and innovation for vehicle systems. In addition to the Michigan headquarters, HATCI also operates engineering test & development facilities in California.

The Team

The EV Efficiency Engineering Team (EVE) is one of the engineering teams within the Department of Electrified Propulsion System Development (EPSD). EVE team focuses on enhancing the vehicle-level efficiency for Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles and/or localizing them for the North American market needs.

The Position

This role leads activities for identifying, developing, and integrating more efficient propulsion system technologies in our current and next-generation Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EV products. This position will also support the investigation of new technologies for off-cycle, or real-world and fuel efficiency benefits. The office is located in Superior Charter Township, MI.

What You Will Do:

  • Support and establish targets for EV energy efficiency (MPGe) through testing and analysis of current and developing vehicles, as well as benchmarking of key competitive vehicles and related propulsion system technologies
  • Investigate new or advanced propulsion system technologies, strategies, and methods to achieve improved vehicle-level efficiency for current and future production vehicles while considering system costs, drivability, and performance impacts for our customers
  • Analyze competitive data sets and assess future trends in passenger vehicle fuel economy and energy efficiency-related technologies
  • Lead activities for developing and integrating new or advanced technologies to improve overall vehicle and system efficiencies, to attain targeted vehicle energy efficiency (MPGe), and to understand and document impacts/trade-offs to vehicle performance and drivability.
  • Participate in testing and development activities with other Propulsion System Development teams, Product Planning, Certification and Regulation, or other relevant teams, for items related to EV efficiency
  • Collaborate with other Propulsion System Development teams, Vehicle Engineering, Product Planning, Certification and Regulation, Legal Affairs, or other relevant teams to support and influence the improvement strategy concerning vehicle efficiency
  • Lead/support communications and negotiations with the appropriate regulatory agencies for EV Test Procedure(s)
  • Create detailed technical reports and present critical information to the management team and colleagues, with clear documentation of technical analysis, system trade-offs, conclusions, and recommendations, as well as business cases for new technologies (as assigned)
  • Travel up to 10% of the time, both domestically and internationally

What You Will Bring to the Role:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related field of engineering from an accredited university
  • Ability to set up and conduct vehicle testing (MCT) for fuel economy, system/component efficiency benchmarking, and analyze the test data using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
  • Familiarity with vehicle instrumentation, test equipment, and experimental setup/design
  • Experience integrating and developing new, more efficient technologies and strategies in targeted vehicle applications and executing appropriate test program(s) for validation of the applied technologies' benefits.
  • Experience and detailed understanding of vehicle propulsion systems under various driving conditions, and the calibration/control of propulsion systems for improving/optimizing vehicle energy efficiency
  • Knowledge of thermal management systems and general vehicle dynamics
  • Experience conducting simulations of vehicle propulsion systems for virtual development activities, and performing vehicle model development/validation with test data
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of propulsion system technology-related trends in the U.S. market, and the ability to support the identification of key technologies for vehicle energy efficiency improvement and compliance strategy
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of current and future regulatory requirements, including testing procedures, and the capability to provide relevant information to help other engineers understand technical requirements to support our test and development activities
  • Excellenttime management, self-management, and organization skills
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
