Power Service Technician

Position Description

  • Assists engineers and technical supervisors in the installation, checkout, and maintenance of NERC compliant protective relays and associated control circuitry to ensure proper protection of generators, transformers, transmission lines, and other power system equipment with direct supervision.
  • The incumbent must possess analytical and communication skills.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Installs, maintains and tests Transmission level NERC associated protective relays and other associated control devices (such as RTU's) and performs any necessary operational checks and NERC documentation with direct supervision. All tasks include becoming knowledgeable and proficient in how to use the required tools and test equipment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Requires out of town travel.
  • Supports the restoration of service to customers during emergencies due to adverse weather or equipment malfunction with direct supervision.
  • Responds to issues with protection and control equipment with other staff and troubleshoot affected equipment. Rotational on-call status for 24/7 response during call is required.
  • Maintains accurate engineering drawings while showing proficiency in protection and control schemes. Must have the capability to design relay protection and control schemes with direct supervision.
  • Adheres to NERC CIP and O&P (company and SPC) policies and provides accurate compliance documentation for all work with direct supervision.


  • Position Requirements


    *Will consider Power Service Technician A, B or C

    Power Service Technician A

  • High School Diploma/GED +5 years experience required.
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics +3 years experience preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
  • $40.10 - $50.10 (min.-mid.)

    Power Service Technician B
  • High School Diploma/GED +2 years experience required.
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics +1 year experience preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
  • $29.45 - $36.80 (min.-mid.)

    Power Service Technician C
  • High School Diploma/GED required.


  • Compensation Information:
  • $23.85 - $29.80 (min.-mid.)
