Job Description

Dewberry's Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Deputy Department Manager in the Asset Management Department. The Asset Management Department focuses on condition assessments, studies, investment plans, etc.

Responsible for knowing how to do the work (that we committed to in our proposal) and assigning / leading the appropriate resources to do the work for Asset Management. Mentor and lead Project/Client Managers within your own group directly responsible for Asset Management projects. Support other Project/Client Managers by providing Asset Management resources to help meet client requirements. In short, provide the Asset Management leadership and resources to grow Asset Management and the follow-on work that comes from it. Reports to Business Unit Manager.

      Supervisory responsibilities include:

      • Recruiting, growing, mentoring, and developing the staff within Asset Management to grow the group and allow each person to achieve their maximum potential.
      • Minimum annual evaluations for each individual reporting to you.
      • Providing both technical and project management guidance/leadership for Asset Management.
      • Organizing your staff in a way to allow career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business and project financial goals.
      • Taking a very active role in recruitment of staff in your group including networking, recruitment, interviewing and "deal closing".


Required Skills & Required Experience

Provide the following to effectively and successfully complete projects:

  • Primary contact for Asset Management for both internal and external clients.
  • Develop proposals for Asset Management projects including coordinating with others you need support from such as Technical Design Discipline Managers.
  • Establishing/improving standards, workflow, and processes for Asset Management.
  • Adherence to project schedule.
  • Notification to other Project/Client Managers your group is supporting if established project schedule cannot be met. Notify in enough time to appropriately handle the situation, preferably at the latest 2 weeks prior.
  • Adherence to project budgets. Review and provide updates on project budgets at milestone dates. Reviewing budgets weekly.
  • Attention to project scope to identify potential additional services.
  • Identify staff performing the project, along with a senior staff member if required.
  • Identify of PM for projects directly managed by your group on both external and internal projects.
  • Provide general updates of projects (just informally where we are in the process, quick tasks to complete, percentage complete currently, etc.)
  • Milestone dates when each team should provide their information to allow sufficient time for the entire team to complete their tasks/reports/etc.
  • Work schedule for your group showing:
    1. Projects assigned
    2. Who is assigned to each project including priorities
    3. Delivery due dates for your groups project commitment's
    4. Workload/Capacity of each employee you are responsible for
  • Simply put - this role controls a large part of our Asset Management resources and all our commitments for Asset Management must come from the Asset Management Deputy Department Manager.
    • knowledgeable of construction process, AIA contracts
    • self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience involving Asset Management on various MEP systems including experience in staff/project management.
    • Good conceptual understanding of plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems with general knowledge of system operation, space requirements, cost.
