Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Graduate School is responsible for all administrative aspects of the university's graduate programs. The chief officer is the Dean of the Graduate School. Primary functions of the Graduate School include monitoring and periodically reviewing all existing programs to ensure that their standards and performance are of the highest quality, identifying and developing new programs that are consistent with regional and national needs, providing logistical support necessary to facilitate the student's graduate experience, supporting the research and creative activities of faculty and students through workshops, innovative programs, and funding opportunities, and promoting communication and cooperation among various academic units within UNCW and the university system.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Graduate Curriculum Specialist ( GCS) is the lead for coordinating curriculum review and approval process at the graduate level and Graduate Catalogue publication. Employee manages curricular proposal, including proposals for new graduate programs, submission, tracking, and approval in approved software systems. They develop training materials and host training sessions for curriculum proposal development, submission, and evaluation. This position communicates with curriculum proposers regarding status of proposals, with graduate council to facilitate proposal review, and with approvers to ensure efficient evaluation. The GCS also facilitates proactive communication between proposers, reviewers, and approvers to streamline the review process. They maintain detailed records of curriculum updates and ensure they are reflected in the course catalogue. The Graduate Curriculum Specialist publishes the graduate catalogue, integrating curricular actions, policy changes, and other content using appropriate software. They ensure the graduate catalogue is compliant with university standards. Employee is the liaison with Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, and other associated offices for notification of curricular action. They create, edit, format, and publish past catalogues for Financial Aid records and University Archiving. This position supports the graduate council curriculum committee, by attending Graduate Council meetings, records graduate council recommendations on curricular proposals, and serves as the point of contact for curricular approvals by Graduate Council. This position collaborates with the Curricular Support Specialist in registrar's office, and Catalogue Editor in UEFA. Position is the main contact for graduate school curriculum information system requirements and updates. Employee in this position is part of the current student and curriculum team in the graduate school, serving as an ex-officio member of the curriculum and calendar committee, supporting processes related to graduate thesis and dissertation submission process.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Proficiency in Banner, Image Now, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of university regulations and limitations and graduate program degree requirements.
