Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that work time will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office. NY

The Director, Underwriting Portfolio Manager - ABL provides strategic leadership and direction to Asset Based Lending (ABL) and Specialty Finance (SpF) underwriting and portfolio management. Oversees the alignment of underwriting and portfolio management strategies with wider organizational tactics to maximize Bank earnings while minimizing risk. Ensures compliance with corporate strategy, internal policy, and applicable laws, and regulations.


Responsibilities

  • Underwriting Oversight - Contributes and provides leadership to the ABL and SpF underwriting, approval and legal documentation process. Ensures that credit quality standards, lending targets, and compliance requirements are met. Evaluates opportunities via communication with Business Development Officers, underwriting team members, prospect and portfolio management teams and or agents and provides oversight to highly complex loan requests. Identifies weaknesses, voids, or deficits in lending processes, and develops appropriate solutions. Supports the Bank's risk and soundness objectives.
  • Business Support - Responsible for the development, revision, and implementation of compliant and effective strategies, policies, standards, and procedures, as it relates to underwriting and portfolio management. Advises on strategies to ensure risks are properly identified and portfolio composition is aligned with overall Bank balance sheet and appropriate for various economic environments. Monitors changes in industries, the economy and macroeconomic environment and advises executive management on potential opportunities to enhance shareholder return.
  • Reporting - Directs analysis and reporting efforts to support investment decision making and alignment with corporate strategy. Oversees and provides reports on strategies and risk positions to Councils and the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO), and other appropriate parties. Ensures all activities follow regulatory guidance, Bank policies and guidelines.
  • Managerial Functions - Leads an underwriting and portfolio management team. Establishes and monitors expectations to achieve company and department goals. Makes appropriate changes to team policies, procedures, and efficiencies in order to prioritize and meet objectives. Manages the performance, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Credit analysis, underwriting or Risk Management OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Credit analysis, underwriting or Risk Management

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree, BS Business, Finance, Economics
    Banking, Finance
  • 6 years of Senior Secured Asset Based Lending
  • Negotiating term sheets and legal agreements
  • Lead Left and Direct borrower relationships experience
  • Management or formal mentorship experience
  • Completion of a formal credit training program

If hired in New York, New York the base pay for this position is generally between $200,000.00 and $240,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
