Summary
The Manager, Driver Operations oversees daily transportation operations across multiple locations, leading drivers and support staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service. This role manages operational performance, supports client needs, and ensures compliance with SOPs, safety standards, and corporate policies. The Manager drives continuous improvement, supports P&L goals, and partners with internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance productivity, service delivery, and the overall driver and client experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

People Management



  • Leads and supports both drivers and operations/support staff by setting clear goals, communicating priorities, and aligning the team with department objectives.
  • Hires, trains, develops, and retains team members to maintain a fully staffed, high-performing department.
  • Provides ongoing coaching, mentoring, and timely performance feedback.
  • Ensures all staff-drivers and operations-are properly trained and consistently follow SOPs, corporate policies, and quality standards.
  • Monitors performance and addresses gaps to maintain efficiency, safety, and compliance.
  • Provides coverage for team absences to support operational continuity.
  • Encourages innovation and continuous improvement across all roles.
  • Models and promotes DSV's corporate values in daily interactions.
  • Develops succession plans and training initiatives to support long-term departmental sustainability.


Client Relationship



  • Develops relationships with clients and serves as an escalation point as needed.
  • Manages third party service providers to ensure world class, seamless service delivery to the clients.
  • Engages with clients regarding non-payment of invoices; that results in resolve and payment.
  • Verifies that the team meets the clients need around shipment bookings, collections, delivery, and shipment updates and that client expectations are consistently exceeded.


Operational Excellence



  • Ensures and verifies client invoices are accurate and timely.
  • Acquires and applies professional/technical knowledge, skills, experience and judgment to accomplish results that contribute to the strategic business plans.
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve operational processes, defines structure and increases productivity.
  • Reviews and analyzes daily, weekly, and monthly reports for accuracy, trends, and areas needing development.
  • Supports the sales team in calls where operational expertise is required.
  • Educates self and others regarding product offerings consistently.
  • Assists Director of Operations with operational budget.
  • Analyzes and reports on performance of the business unit to ensure that budget performance measures are met/exceeded.


Finance



  • Formulates, monitors, and achieves their quarterly objectives.
  • Executes on monthly targets and controls as defined by country and regional leadership.
  • Manages costs within their locations and looks for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Delivers on the bottom line budget commitment.
  • Assists with reports on revenue targets for their locations.
  • Sets the cost budget in line with the strategy and manages costs or adjust costs according to business requirements.
  • Manages assets in line with targets, forecasts, and strategy requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities and risks within the business that may impact the business environment and ability to deliver to shareholder commitments.
  • Ensures compliance with internal and external controls and KPI's set at the regional levels.


Other Duties



  • Performs other duties and projects as required and assigned.


Education and Experience



  • Associates Degree in Logistics or relevant field and 1 year experience managing teams
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations; driver management experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience leading drivers and/or operations teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated success managing performance, coaching employees, and building high-performing teams.
  • Strong background in safety, compliance, and adherence to DOT, FMCSA and company operational standards.
  • Hands-on experience resolving operational issues, service failures, and client escalations.
  • Track record of improving processes, increasing productivity, and driving operational excellence.
  • Experience working with transportation management systems (TMS), dispatch tools, or similar operational platforms.
  • Prior responsibility for budgets, cost control, or P&L contributions preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of dispatch, driver management and technology



Skills & Competencies



  • Intermediate Excel skills, basic Microsoft Work and Powerpoint skills
  • Strong English proficiency (reading, writing, and verbal); knowledge of secondary languages are a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of truckload, LTL, and current transportation marketplace trends.
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and people-management skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with drivers, internal teams, and external clients.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse operational environment and understand unique client and driver needs while supporting business growth.
  • Demonstrated customer service mindset with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in mentoring, coaching, and improving team performance through effective leadership practices.
  • Strong follow-through and ability to drive tasks and initiatives to completion.


Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be required to walk and stand for extended periods while working in yards, warehouses, and operational environments. The role may involve climbing in and out of trucks, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching to inspect equipment or assist drivers. The employee must be able to use hands and arms to handle tools, documents, and equipment, as well as operate standard office technology such as computers and phones. Vision requirements include the ability to perform close work, read documents and screens, and maintain awareness of surroundings in active yard and warehouse areas.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in a mix of environments, including office settings, truck yards, loading docks, and warehouses. The employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions, moderate noise levels from equipment and vehicles, and occasional fumes or airborne particles typical of transportation and warehouse operations. The office environment generally has a low to moderate noise level.

For this position, the expected base pay is: $77,500 - $97,000 / Annual. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, geographic location and other objective business considerations.
