State Department Federal Credit Union is seeking a Collector II to preserve the Credit Union's assets by controlling delinquent accounts, collecting delinquentloan payments and/or recovering collateral, training, assisting other Collectors and disposing of repossessed collateral. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of all Federal, State, and Local collection regulations to include the Federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Federal Privacy Act.
- Maintain knowledge of Akcelerant Framework Collections functionality, PSCU/FDR System and Intranet/Internet application for use in the tracking delinquent members and their attachable assets.
- Contact members regarding risk-based and non-risk-based loans and negative balances to negotiate effective payment schedules.
- Follow-up with members who have broken promises for repayment, accept payments and perform transfers on members' accounts.
- Review and evaluate delinquent accounts and other reports monthly to determine best courses of action to take.
- Skip trace members who are difficult to contact and identify deposit accounts, garnishable wages, property and other assets.
- Provide limited credit counseling, and cross-sell SDFCU loan products, to improve members' financial situations and to further collateralize the Credit Union's loan portfolio.
- Maintain knowledge of SDFCU services and loan products and how the products may affect collections efforts and refer members to designated credit counseling services as needed.
- Assist members with requests to refinance delinquent SDFCU loans that involve no additional disbursement of funds.
- Review consumer credit counseling proposals for payment acceptability. Calculate acceptable payments and submit extension payment plans to the Manager of Collections for approval and communicate the required amounts to Consumer Credit Counselors.
- Conduct limited research and prepare adjustments on member delinquency inquiries such as misapplied loan payments and/or incorrect distributions of allotment payments.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Skip tracing on 90+ day accounts and working knowledge of debt collection regulations required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and interpretive skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and meet strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated expertise using automated collection modules, Microsoft Office suite and other personal computer applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekend hours, with little advance notice.
- Demonstrated and verifiable bankruptcy, repossession and legal process experience as it relates to collections.
- 3 years of collections experience in a financial institution or collection agency desired.
