DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a leader in the management of chronic respiratory conditions. Our nationally recognized pulmonary rehabilitation program comprises a team of respiratory therapists and pulmonary specialists who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with chronic lung disease. Our program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), which recognizes our commitment to providing high-quality patient care and services.

Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Scheduling & Authorization Coordinator performs and coordinates general front office duties, to include, but not limited to: reception, co-pay collection, appointment scheduling, and referral and authorization.

Completes registration for new or previously registered patients, timely and accurately. Registers bulk accounts as needed. Verifies insurance eligibility for outpatient services on all Third-Party Payers. Communicates clearly and effectively with patient/clinic staff when services are deemed unauthorized. Collects co-pays and researches and responds to patient basic billing inquiries, assists with resolution of minor billing problems. Responsible for facilitating the processing of authorizations associated with orders placed in Epic to ensure a smooth flow of authorizations.

The coordinator is a resource for patients, physicians, staff, and ambulatory care service managers by providing excellent customer service, strong written and verbal communication, and high emotional intelligence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience in a large healthcare organization or relevant environment.

  • Scheduling, referral processing, and co-pay collections.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems.

  • Strong computer skills and data entry experience, especially with charge entry and scheduling.

  • Proven ability to determine the importance of calls and proper referral area.

  • Experience scheduling appointments with demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and make decisions concerning patient needs.

  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, preferably pulmonary medicine.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with various insurance types and the authorization process.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate professionally in person, written, and by telephone when dealing with diverse groups of people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual: English/ Spanish.
  • Experience with Epic.
  • Knowledge of UCSD Medical Center systems.
  • Outpatient Pulmonary experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Will be required to float to other clinics to provide coverage as needed.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $72,328 - $72,328 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.64 - $34.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
