DESCRIPTION

The Department of Ophthalmology is the only academic eye institution in the region offering the most advanced treatments across all areas of eye care. With world class clinicians, surgeons, scientists and staff dedicated to excellence, and providing the best possible patient care to prevent, treat and cure eye diseases, they have excelled for more than 25 years. The Department of Ophthalmology sees over 120,000 patients a year with almost 5,000 surgeries.

Under supervision of chief optometrist and lead optometrist, performs general assistance in optometry procedures: taking history, visual acuity, color vision, stereo vision, refractive error measurement, keratometry, potential acuity measurement, topography, OCT, brightness acuity test, spectacle and contact lens measurement. contact lens training in insertion and removal, and related services. In addition, will organize and stock exam rooms and contact lens area. Will order and dispense contact lenses.

MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to take patient history, evaluate patient problems and provide complete documentation in electronic medical record.

  • Ability to train and educate patients to insert, remove, and care for soft, rigid gas permeable, and hybrid contact lenses.

  • Ability to obtain insurance authorization for contact lens services, and stock contact lens inventory, contact lens solutions, and supplies.

  • Ability to train and educate patients, staff, residents, medical students and general community regarding optometry clinical services and procedures, hospital procedures, and necessary patient instructions.

  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public and medical personnel.

  • Knowledge of professional dress code.

  • Knowledge of (and high standards of) laboratory hygiene, biohazard handling, and universal precautions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working as a optometry technician.

  • Ability to perform visual acuity, measurement of refractive error, color vision, stereovision, topography, OCT, BAT, PAM, and related tests.

  • Ability to measure spectacle lens power, and rigid gas permeable lens power, radius, and diameter.

  • General knowledge of ophthalmic diseases, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment in order to carry out all functions.

  • Experience with electronic medical records.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • May need to travel to satellite clinics.

  • Must be willing to learn, work in multiple locations, and work variable hours and days, including Saturdays.

  • Occasional overtime as required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $75,961 - $75,961 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $36.38 - $36.38

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
