The Department of Neuroscience at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Temporary) Research Assistant position.

About the Opportunity

This person will provide support in conducting advanced neuroscience research. The position requires a range of neuroscience-related skills in behavior, surgery, data analysis, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, and cell culture. The person will be able to to collect, analyze, and prepare data for the purpose of our research initiatives and will work to publish existing data.

What You'll Do

* Assist with running behavioral research experiments
* Assist with collecting, organizing, analyzing and publishing data
* Assist with cell culture, drug administration, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence procedures
* Operate experimental equipment
* Read and summarize related literature
* Attend individual progress meetings and lab meetings
* Perform miscellaneous duties to support research, grant preparation, and publications as directed

Pay Grade: 15

Length of Assignment: Approximately 8.5 months

Work Hours: 37.5 Hours per week

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • A minimum of 0-6 months of experience working with laboratory animals
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Animal handling
  • Good observation skills
  • Good record keeping
  • Excellent data analysis and writing skills.
Requirements

* This position may require Medical Monitoring, including periodic health monitoring and/or training.
