Field Finance Partner

Step into an impactful role at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), one of the nation's leading pediatric healthcare systems. As a Field Finance Partner, you will serve as a strategic financial advisor and collaborative partner to the Nursing and Clinical Care Services (NCCS) leadership team. As part of a centralized finance team, you will work closely with NCCS to plan, support, and execute all financial activities.

Work Environment & Flexibility

  • Remote-Friendly: Primarily remote (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) to support work-life balance.
  • Collaborative Touchpoints: Quarterly onsite meetings at CHOP to connect, plan, and innovate with Finance and operational teams.
  • Occasional Onsite Engagement: Preferred for fostering collaboration and supporting operational needs.

What you will do

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Performance Management
  • Support operating budget, performance management, and variance reporting processes for multiple business units.

  • Provide proactive financial guidance to business unit leadership using business intelligence, data, and advanced analytical tools.

  • Analyze and support development of base budget assumptions, including volume, gross revenue, expense inflation, cost-savings initiatives, and new programs.

  • Partner with leaders to identify key volume and variance drivers, assess risk areas, and achieve operating targets.

  • Actively participate in month-end close, including accrual support, trend analysis, root-cause analysis, and monitoring of key financial metrics.

  • Summarize and present financial findings to Senior Finance Partners for review with executive leadership.

  • Guide development and monitoring of remediation and corrective action plans for material budget variances.

  • Support labor and non-labor benchmarking and cost management initiatives.

  • Participate in client-based meetings to gain exposure across the organization.

  • Support Corporate Finance training related to operating budgets, capital budgets, variance reporting, service line reporting, and finance systems.

Strategic Financial Planning & Capital Budgeting
  • Coordinate financial inputs to develop forecasts, financial plans, and "what-if" scenario analyses aligned with business unit strategic objectives.

  • Evaluate the financial impact of business decisions using analytical and strategic thinking.

  • Participate in retrospective financial reviews of approved business plans.

  • Support business unit vice presidents with capital budget requests and development of business cases.

  • Coordinate and maintain capital spending projections across business units.

  • Prepare financial updates for enterprise planning, including refreshes to the Enterprise 7-Year Plan.

  • Leverage financial data and advanced analytics to support leadership decision-making.

Service Line Reporting & Cost Accounting
  • Support Financial Planning and Analytics teams in advancing accurate cost accounting methodologies, including RVU development and indirect cost allocations.

  • Promote service line reporting to assess profitability, improve costing processes, and inform operational and strategic decision-making.

  • Contribute business unit expertise to enterprise cost accounting methodologies.

  • Participate in development and enhancement of financial tools, models, visualizations, and predictive analytics to support enterprise-wide reporting.

Compliance, Performance Improvement & Organizational Learning
  • Guide business unit leaders in understanding and adhering to finance policies, procedures, and GAAP standards.

  • Support adoption and best-practice use of financial and supply chain systems and tools.

  • Participate in enterprise and business unit performance improvement initiatives to enhance financial and operational outcomes.

  • Contribute to Finance department improvement projects, including system design, implementation, and stabilization efforts.

  • Serve as a liaison between business units and Corporate Finance functions (e.g., Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Supply Chain, Revenue Cycle).

  • Participate in or lead special projects and committees supporting finance or operational initiatives.

  • Educate staff on financial concepts and contribute to development of financial management training materials.

Customer & Business Partner Engagement
  • Develop and maintain strong business partner relationships across the CHOP enterprise.

  • Respond to stakeholders in a timely, collaborative, and service-oriented manner.

  • Share financial expertise to support effective financial management practices.

  • Deliver financial, operational, and strategic insights to business units.

  • Foster an open, communicative environment that encourages innovation and continuous process improvement.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years of finance related experience Required

Skills and Abilities

  • ERP Payroll, Accounts Payable, General Ledger and Supply Chain modules, Workforce Analytics, EPIC, Microsoft products, Business Objects, Allscripts or other Budget and FDS platforms, Qlikview applications.
  • Experience with accounting concepts, variable and rolling budget processes, labor analytics, service line profitability, financial and forecasting concepts
  • Knowledge of integrated and automated financial systems
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, able to prioritize work, and take initiative when necessary
  • Demonstrates ability to diagnose complex business finance issues and to recommend areas for process improvement or innovation
  • Exhibits ability to work on concurrent initiatives and activities with a reasonable degree of autonomy.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) - Institute for Management Accountants (IMA) - upon hire - Preferred
